Sieglinde Schoen Smith and Her “Mother Earth and Her Children” Quilt

Today at the ECQG meeting, we had the pleasure of meeting Sieglinde Schoen Smith and her quilts.  She won best of show at Houston in 2006 with her “Mother Earth and Her Children” Quilt.  It is amazing.

The second photo above is of the back of the quilt.  I can’t say enough about this quilt.  It is simply amazing!  The appliqué and embroidery are the best I have ever seen.

She also brought her Christmas Quilt.

She also brought her four seasons quilts that are based on the Mother Earth quilt.  She actually has patterns available for these.

She does absolutely everything by hand and doesn’t use a sewing machine at all.  She said that she has won three top of the line machines but doesn’t use them.

Here are a couple more quilts she brought along.

She was an extremely interesting speaker and we all had tears in our eyes with her history and the story of her quilts.  She is unassuming and delightful.  If you ever get a chance to see her and her quilts, be sure to take advantage of the opportunity, you won’t be disappointed.
