Flip Flop Paper Piecing

I took a class yesterday from Mary Kay Mouton.  She wrote a book called Flip-Flop Paper Piecing and it is really interesting.  Here are the blocks I made.

Here are Danielle’s blocks.

Here are Stella’s blocks.

Look at all the perfect points!

At guild today she is doing her presentation and will be showing a lot of quilts.  Two years ago, she entered and won a ribbon at the ECQG quilt show with a wonderful miniature quilt.  She did give us paper for a small block but I didn’t get it made yet.

Here is a 6 inch block (all of ours are 6 inch blocks) along with a small one that someone in class made.  Sorry but I don’t remember who.

Block Lotto

Every month I decide I want to make the blocks for Block Lotto.  What keeps me from doing it right away is the requirement that the fabric be washed.  I don’t usually prewash my fabric so I pick out the fabric, wash it and then make the blocks.  By the end of the month I usually haven’t done all that.

This month’s blocks are curved rails made from batiks.  I really wanted to make them and got around to it this morning.  You can’t imagine how many ways I sewed them together wrong but finally got them done correctly.  Here are my nine blocks.

When I went to post the blocks, Block Lotto was not listed as one of my blogs I can post at so I hope I can get these posted in time.  If not, they will be a great quilt on their own.

Last Class of Beginning Machine Piecing

First is Lisa and her very cute Halloween quilt top.

Next is Wendy – she still needs to add the outer border but it is really looking good.

Jo wasn’t feeling good so she didn’t make it tonight.

They all did a great job.

Emma’s Quilt

Here is Emma’s quilt from the quilt show.  This was a featured quilt at the Las Vegas a couple of years ago.  My blocks are still in a baggie and Emma won a ribbon with hers.

Finished Blocks 0708

Here is a photo from my Las Vegas design wall – the photo is dated July of 2008.  I am not sure if these are all the blocks I have or if there are more.  I know I still have lots of strips so if I can find the pattern again, I can make more blocks.

Good for Emma – she finished hers.

Design Wall Monday–September 26, 2011

Here are my embroidery blocks for Winter Wonderland on the design wall.  I finished another block this morning and only have two more to do.

Here is the one I finished.

Only two more – one for the center and one in the lower left.  The lower left is the one I started this morning and it is the largest of the two remaining.  Once I finish the last two blocks, I can cut the down and sew them together.  Once that is done I need to do a feather stitch on the seams.  There are a lot of pieced blocks that need to be done for the border so that is what I will start on next.

Go to Judy L’s blog for many more interesting design walls.

Stitching Sunday–September 25, 2011

092511

Here is the block I am working on.  I should be able to finish it in the next couple of days and move on.  There are only two more blocks after this one.

Yea!  The end is in sight!

By the way, the white leaves are not as noticeable in person.  The camera picks up the white much more than the eye sees.

Walking In A Winter Wonderland Block Finished

I finished the embroidery on the large Winter Wonderland block and have started on the next one.  This next on is little and I will try to get back to posting the status on Stitching Sunday this week.  I have three more blocks to embroider and all the pieced blocks to make.  Here is a photo of a completed quilt in case you were wondering what is it going to look like some day.

Finished quilt by Cindy

Of course mine is blue instead red.  My friend Cindy Lee made this version.

Beginning Machine Piecing Class

There were only two students last night because one of the is out of town.  They did a great job putting their quilt tops together.  First Lisa got all her blocks put together.  Here she is.

Here are Jo’s blocks before she started sewing them together.  She only has one more seam to do.

Next week we will put the borders on and talk about quilting.

Doesn’t look much different from last week but it is quilted.  I just need to add the binding.

Quilt Show Recap

The ECQG Quilt Show – Georgia Celebrates Quilts 2011 is over.  I am relieved that everything went so well and our guests seemed to enjoy themselves.  The vendors were happy, the volunteers showed up and were wonderful and we are already starting to talk about the 2013 show plans.

Here are my quilts that were in the show.

First is Frankly My Dear – my Gone With the Wind quilt.  This quilt was made in memory of my Mother, who loved Gone With The Wind.

Next is the dog quilt.  I ran this as a block of the month a couple of years ago.

Next is my lime green and black/white quilt.  I forgot to take a photo of it hanging.  Not sure how I missed it. Here is a photo before it was quilted.  I will get another photo later.

Next is a quilt made by my friend Cindy Lee.  I quilted it and entered it in both our names.

This is my President’s Quilt – 2008.  It was made for me by the guild at the end of my year as president.  It was hung because we had a quilt that did not get turned in by the deadline.

Next is the raffle quilt from the 2007 show.  I quilted this one.  It was hung in place of a quilt that was withdrawn.

Here is another replacement quilt.  This one was Danielle’s President’s Quilt – 2009.  It was also hung in place of a quilt that was withdrawn.  I quilted this one also.

Here is Carolyn’s quilt.  She made it during a Tiny Stitches retreat and I quilted it for her.  It won a Honorable Mention ribbon.

I didn’t get a photo of Jan’s quilt hanging but she also won a Honorable Mention.  I quilted it for her and here it is when I gave it back to her.  She embellished it even more after this photo.

Here is Lynda’s little log cabin quilt.  I quilted this one and we won second place ribbons for it.

I also quilted Mary’s quilt.

One more quilt from Jan that I quilted.

Here is my small quilt that was auctioned off.  Not sure yet what we made on it but our auction was very successful.

Wonderful quilt show – I am almost sorry it is over.

Day 2 of the Quilt Show

We had another great day on Saturday.  Just going to share a couple of photos today.  My camera battery gave out so it is fully recharged and ready to go today.

Here is an overview from the front of the Civic Center.

Here is Best of Show!  It is unbelievable.

It won first place in the combo category (applique and piecing together), Best of Show and Quilter’s Choice (from the preview party).  It was made by Anne Anderberg.  The name of the quilt is “All Aboard”.

Opening Day of the Quilt Show

Guess what!  I was so busy that I forgot to take any photos of the quilt show.  I promise to remember to put my camera in my pocket tomorrow.  Remember, if you live in the Atlanta area or anywhere near it, come to the ECQG Quilt Show today or Sunday.  It is held at the Cobb County Civic Center in Marietta, Georgia and we welcome you.  We had busses from other parts of Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama and hope to see lots more people in the next two days.  Over 350 beautiful quilts to see!

Quilt Show Update and Being on TV

I was able to be on TV yesterday talking about quilts and our Quilt Show.  It was a lot of fun.  I thought I would be nervous but the host (Cheryl White) was wonderful and made me feel right at home.

Here I am getting my mike on.

And here I am with all the cameras.  Lynda came with me and she was able to take the photos.

After the show, we went to the Civic Center where the quilts were being hung.  After hanging, we got the labels attached to each quilt and walked the aisles a few times making sure everything was fine.

I then changed into my third outfit of the day and we had the awards ceremony.  Everything went well and I managed to get through the day without making a fool of myself on TV or at the ceremony.

Here is Robin (President of ECQG) and me at the end of the evening.

Fun day coming up today – welcoming our guests to the show!

Quilt Show Update

Yesterday was the last day of judging and you can’t believe how beautiful the winners are.  Of course, Best of Show is absolutely wonderful!  All the winners will be announced later tonight at the awards ceremony.

At the same time we were finishing up judging, the Civic Center was being transformed.  Here are all the poles and drapes set up.  Check out the quilts waiting in their pillowcases until they get hung this afternoon.

It will look completely different this afternoon.

Here is the vendor area.

Of course, that will be very different by then end of the day when the vendors move in.

I am going over to the TV station this morning, helping with set up this afternoon and being the MC of the awards ceremony tonight!

More tomorrow!

Quilt Show Judging

Today was a full day of judging at the quilt show.  While the judges were hard at work, a few of us had time to check email.  Thank goodness for IPhones.

We have one more day of judging.  Tomorrow is also the day the poles and drapes get set up at the Civic Center.  Wish us luck.  For more information about the show go to ecqg.com.

Quilt Show Update

Unfortunately we had a quilt that didn’t show up at quilt turn in yesterday so we needed to find something to hang in its place.  The 2010 President’s quilt is in the show already, the 2009 President’s quilt is hanging in place of a quilt that was withdrawn earlier and the 2008 President’s quilt is mine.  It doesn’t have a sleeve on it so I made one this evening and hope I can talk someone into pinning it on the quilt tomorrow during down time at Judging.

1208 My Quilt

Isn’t it beautiful?

On another note – we got a call today from Fox 5 here in Atlanta.  They asked me to appear on their morning show on Thursday to talk about the quilt show.  I think I am excited about it but not sure how much I will sleep between now and Thursday morning.  Wish me luck!

Design Wall Monday–September 12, 2011

I finished the house quilt top and it is ready to be quilted.

Quilt turn in for the quilt show was yesterday and judging starts today.  I won’t have a lot of free time but hope to get this quilted in the next few days (in my spare time).

Be sure to go to Judy L’s blog and see all the other design walls.
