Bowties–Numbers 526-550

While working on other projects (in the middle of the night as I am going through a period of not sleeping well) I have been making bowties as leaders/enders.  I am on the downhill slope as I need about 900 and I now have 550 – plus about 7 more on the design board.  I only count them when I have 25 on the board, then I put them in a baggie and they join their friends waiting.

I am starting to think about how to put them together someday. At this point I am considering making 9 patches with all the bowties going the same direction.  I think I would be able to then play with the design without having so many little pieces.

Bowties–Finally

I haven’t worked on my bowtie leader/enders for quite a while.  Since I finally got around to cutting more fabric I finished up another 25 blocks and have them put away with the others.  These are numbers 501-525.  I think I need around 900 to make the size quilt I want so I am over half way.

It certainly is going to be a colorful quilt!

Leaders and Enders–Bowtie Progress

I have been making slow progress on my leader/ender bowties.  I now have 500 made so I am more than half way.  I think I need about 900 to make a quilt the size I want.  Here are the latest ones.

0914 476-500

I have a little design board that holds 25 blocks so I make 25 and then put them in a baggie to wait with the others.  I am starting to think about how to set them.  I think I will sew them into 9 patches first.

I cut a few more scraps last night so I have some more ready to sew.  My main project has turned back into the One Block Wonder.  I still have lots more of those to piece together.

Design Wall Monday–June 23, 2014

 062314 - 1

My latest Christmas quilt is on my design wall today.  Each block is 16 inches and there are only 9 blocks in the quilt. The pattern is Solstice by Kate Spain and the fabric line has the same name.  It needs to be finished for Christmas in July at the shop at the end of July.  I went to the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild sew-in last week and managed to get all the blocks cut and in baggies so it is fairly easy to work on a block.  The fifth one is almost finished.

As a result of making these blocks, I am also making progress on my Bowties.  Here are blocks 426-450.

0614 426-450

I think Bonnie used 729 in her quilt but I am thinking of maybe making it a little larger so still have lots more bowties to make.  I need to spend a little time soon cutting up scraps to be ready to make more of these.

Design Wall Monday–May 5, 2014

More Kaffe mountains on my design wall today.  I am getting close to having half of them made.

050514

Of course, along with the Kaffe I have been making leader/ender bowties.  Here are numbers 381-400.  I am more than half way to making a quilt!

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class Three

Monday night was the third class of the Beginning Machine Piecing and we focused on half square triangles!

First here is the homework of nine patches from last week.

Then we tackled the friendship star.  Everyone got at least one made.

I have been working on my bowties while also working on Scrappy Mountain Majesties and Sisters Choice blocks.  I have made progress on both.  Here are bowties number 371-380!

Bowties #361-370

I have been doing a little sewing – not much but a little.  As a byproduct of sewing, I finished 10 more bowties.  These are numbers 361-370.  I think I am about half way to a quilt.

0414 361-370

Last night was the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild monthly sew-in and I took my Swoon quilt to work on.  I had to add one last inner border and then I put on the 2 1/2 inch square scrappy border.  That took most of the evening.  I did get the outside border cut – just another 2 1/2 of the background to finish it off.  I measured for the first two and need to get them sewn on.  I will then only need the last two borders.

I looked at my stash and have started pulling for the backing.  I have several cuts of Authentic that I plan to piece for the back.  I would love to get this ready to quilt sometime soon.

Design Wall Monday–March 17, 2014

Today on my design wall is the start of my Wishes quilt.

031714

There will be 16 sets of these in the quilt. During our retreat, I had people put quilty wishes on a piece of fabric and they are featured in the blocks.  I asked each person to write about a wish related to quilting – many of them mentioned UFO’s.  It will be fun to read.  I am putting the quotes in a circle so there will not be a top or side of the quilt.  Whatever way it is picked up will be perfect.

I also completed a few more of my leader/ender bowtie blocks.  These are numbers 331-340.

Update on Design Wall

Here is what my design wall looks like today.

1113 Blocks for Magical Slice and Dice

I got questions yesterday about what fabric I am using.  Here it is.

I am loving the blocks that I am making.

Here are my next 10 leader/ender bowtie blocks. These are 261-270

More Progress on Scrappy Trips

I am now at 50 blocks finished and only 14 more to go.  Here are blocks 41-50.

1113 41-50 blocks

As I am sewing, I am working on my leader/ender project – bowties.  Here are 10 bowties and I now have 240 done, only about 600 more until I can start making a quilt!

1113 240 bowties

I work on them until I have 10 on the mini design wall and when I get 10 done, I pin them together.  When I get 5 sets of 10, I put them in a sandwich bag.  So far I have 4 sandwich bags plus 4 sets of 10 waiting for 10 more to go in a bag.

Today is my birthday – we are going out to breakfast then I am teaching a class.  Tonight we are going to Longhorn for birthday dinner.  Should be a good day, even if it is cold.

Still More Progress on Easy Street

I got another row done on Easy Street and started the next row.  I am more than half way done!

I started on the next row.

I have been using little pieces of fabric for leaders/enders and finally took the time to cut some bowtie kits to use.  This is what I got done while sewing yesterday.

Aren’t they cute?  I bought five yards of Kona “School Bus”.  Love that color.  I think I am going to try to use different fabrics for each of the blocks but as time goes on I will probably forget which fabrics I have already used so will probably end up with duplicates.

I have a lot of other things to do today so not sure how much progress I will make on Easy Street.

Leader and Ender Number 16

Number 16 of 20 is done so there are only 4 more to make.  One is sewn into strips of 6 so just needs to be put together.  I am going to have to think about my next leader/ender project soon.  I love it when I have everything cut and ready to go.

I made more blocks for the Christmas quilt and will show the progress on that for design wall Monday.

Christmas Quilt Progress

I made a few of the blocks for my Christmas in July project.  I have used 6 of the 40 jelly roll strips so far.  I got all the rest of cutting done so I hope to just do a few each morning and get it done in a week or so.

While working on them, I completed yet another leader/ender block.

This one is number 15 of 20.

Just One Star and Leader/Ender Block

I finally got around to making a couple of stars for Moda’s Just One Star program.  I made these two and put them in the mail yesterday.

While working on these, I finished up block 14 of my Moda leader/ender blocks.

I also finished up two customer quilts and will show them after I deliver them today or tomorrow.

Design Wall Monday–April 18, 2011

My design wall has finally changed.  I decided on the inner border for the curvy road quilt.  It is a very bright yellow stripe and I think it will be great.  The photo is on my cutting table.

Here is my actual design wall or I guess I should say design walls.

Along the top of the walls are the Saturday Sampler blocks waiting for their friends to join them.  The church block goes with the black houses, the blocks next to it are from my bee and there will be a total of eleven of them.  I have received four so far.  Down in the left corner are the leader/ender blocks.

I am continuing to work on past Saturday Sampler blocks but have a few other things to work on so might not make much progress on them this week.

For more design walls go to Judy L’s blog.

Progress on blocks

I made another Saturday Sampler block – a batik house.  It looks a little wonky in the photo but looks better in person.  This time the house is an apartment building.

While working on this block, I completed one more leader/ender block – number 13.

I joined an apron swap and picked out the following fabric to use for my partner.

Now all I have to do is decide on the pattern.  I still am debating between three of my favorites.

Saturday Sampler Blocks and More

I got two more Saturday Sampler blocks made in the last couple of days.  Here is the February batik house and a floral fantasy block – not sure what month.

I still have a large pile of blocks to work on.  While doing these, I finished another Moda block.  This makes 12 of 20 blocks done. Here it is.

Lastly I thought I would show you a new addition to the shop.  Remember the pink fat quarter lady?  She decided to go reproduction and has a new outfit on.

Everything you see on her is just fat quarters.

Leader/Ender Block 11

While working on my curvy road quilt I finished another leader/ender block.  This one is full of soft colors and prints.

Only eight more before I have to decide what to do with them.

Another Leader/Ender Block–Number 10

Here is my latest leader/ender block.  This is number 10 of 20 from the bag of 2 1/2 inch squares I won a few months ago.  Each block is made from a Moda line and they are all very different.  I am still not sure what I will do with them when they are all made.  I am sure something will come to mind.

Another Leader/Ender Block

I finished another Moda leader/ender block today while making my block lotto blocks and my Shop Hop apron.  I forgot to take a photo of the apron but will get one tomorrow at Shop Hop.
