Mystery till Midnight

On Saturday night we had a mystery party at the quilt shop.  I have coordinated this several times in the past and we always have a great time – this one was great.  There were 12 people participating.  I cut kits and there were two choices.  Cool colors and warm colors.  The cool included blues, purple and turquoise.  Here is one of the cool quilts on the design wall.  Not sure if this is the way she will actually put it together but it is an interesting setting.

The warm colors were also great – I think this is the one I would have picked.

Roxanne was playing with her blocks – again I am not sure this will be the final result.  The pattern actually called for all the blocks to just be set side to side in the same direction but it is always fun to see what people decide to do.

BOM Day at Allatoona

We started the mystery quilt BOM at guild yesterday.  Since it is a mystery quilt, I can’t show photos of the quilts (not that there are any at this time) but I can show all the participants hard at work.  The first month is mostly cutting, cutting and more cutting so everyone was quite busy.

It was really fun to see all the different fabric that people chose to make this quilt from.

Off to teach my beginners.

Getting Ready for Amicalola Retreat

Once again we are going to do a mystery quilt at the Tiny Stitches retreat in January.  This year the directions call for 8 dark fat quarters and 8 light fat quarters.  I picked mine out over the weekend.

Although I have a drawing of the finished quilt top, I have no idea how it is made.  It is always fun though.

Design Wall Monday–December 9, 2013

Yesterday was Bonnie Hunter club at Tiny Stitches and I was able to get some cutting done for the mystery.  Not much sewing but quite a bit of cutting.  For my design wall today, I really have design containers.

1213 Clue one blocks done

1213 Clue one in progress

1213 Triangles for clue one

1213 Green rectangles for clue two

1213 Squares for clue two

1213 Yellow squares for clue two

Not very exciting but progress is being made.

I did finish another 10 bowtie blocks.  These are 271-280.

Mystery Quilt on Saturday Night

Last Saturday we had a mystery till midnight class at Tiny Stitches.  I had precut strips for each person so they had a head start on the project.  I found cute little baskets and water bottles at the dollar store and used them to package up the kits.

As you can see, they had two color choices.

Purple

or Brown

They got all the pieces of the blocks done, but didn’t have time to actually make the blocks.  I hope to get a photo this week of one finished.  I am sure that at least Sue will complete hers.

Michele showed her Easy Street at guild yesterday.  Here it is.

Here is mine – sorry about the bad photo of Michele’s.

Mystery Quilt Ready to Quilt

My mystery quilt from the Tiny Stitches retreat is ready to quilt.  I had enough leftover fabric to piece the back and I still have enough to make a pillowcase.  I hope to get it quilted this week.

Easy Street on the Bed

Easy Street is finished!  I quilted it with lime green thread, a green polka dot backing and wool batting.  I am in love!

I guess you can’t see the quilting.  I will take a closer photo tonight.

Bonnie Hunter at Tiny Stitches

Bonnie was at Tiny Stitches yesterday for about an hour.  She signed books and showed a few of her quilts.

Here I am with Bonnie and next is Michele.

Here is Mary with Bonnie.

Bonnie brought her version of Easy Street with her.

I had mine quilted by yesterday afternoon so took it to show to Bonnie.  I had her sign the back since I hadn’t put a label on it yet.  I came home and put the binding on it so I could take it to Guild today for Show and Tell.

Design Wall Monday–January 28, 2013

I finished the center of my mystery quilt and am ready for the borders.  I have a bold flower print for the borders and have decided that I do not want to piece it so I will pick up another piece of it today and use what I already have for part of the back.

Here it is with the sashing/inner border on.

I will be using the check for the binding after the floral border.  Hopefully I can put the border on this afternoon.

Design Wall Monday–January 21, 2013

My mystery quilt is still on my design wall.  If I can get a few hours to dedicate to it, I can finish it.  I started putting the sashing on – all the blocks are complete.  There are only six blocks to this quilt.  Each block measures 19 inches when in the quilt.

I am really liking it so far.  You can probably see that except for the sashing, there are polka dots on all the fabrics.  There is one more border to add after the sashing.  It is a floral with a black background and bright flowers.  It has a 40’s/50’s look to it.  Hopefully I will be able to post a photo of the finished quilt next week.

Mystery Quilt Update

I went to the Modern Quilt Guild sew-in Thursday night and had hoped to get more done on it yesterday but ran out of time.  I did get a couple of rows together.  Here is one of them.

I am really liking it.

More Kaffe Fabric to Hoard

This month’s shipment from Wish Upon a Quilt is here.  More subdued colors this shipment.  They will support the brighter colors very well.

I worked on my mystery quilt at the Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild Sew-in last night and finished all the blocks.  Will work a little while on the sashing this afternoon.  Hope to have it put together soon.

Design Wall Monday–January 14, 2013

Here is my design wall today.  This is the mystery quilt designed by Debbie Caffrey that we worked on at retreat.  I do sew during retreat but don’t have a lot of time.  There are only six blocks in the quilt and I have most of the pieces made for each of them but only one completely finished.  I still need to add the white triangles to the sides of the strips before I can finish putting it together.

Several people were able to finish their tops.  Here are a few.

Here is Debbie’s sample quilt.

I can’t wait to see the finished quilts in the next few months.

Design Wall Monday–January 7, 2013

I finished Easy Street and it is actually off the design wall and ready to go on the longarm.  I was planning on putting on a border but when I put it on my bed, it was obvious that a border would make it too large, so it won’t get a border.

One of the other projects on my list of four for this month is my scrappy trips.  I got it out and put the finished blocks on the design wall.  I have several block strip sets put together and actually sewed one more block this morning.  Making progress.

Still More Progress on Easy Street

I got another row done on Easy Street and started the next row.  I am more than half way done!

I started on the next row.

I have been using little pieces of fabric for leaders/enders and finally took the time to cut some bowtie kits to use.  This is what I got done while sewing yesterday.

Aren’t they cute?  I bought five yards of Kona “School Bus”.  Love that color.  I think I am going to try to use different fabrics for each of the blocks but as time goes on I will probably forget which fabrics I have already used so will probably end up with duplicates.

I have a lot of other things to do today so not sure how much progress I will make on Easy Street.

More Progress on Easy Street

I sewed and sewed and sewed.  I have the first three rows of Easy Street put together.  It is now to big for the design wall so here it is on my bed – excuse the mess on the side table/sewing machine.

This is a big quilt.

I am thinking I will go ahead and put a border on it even though it will probably be large enough for the bed without one.  I am going to stop by the shop today and will pick up backing and borders.

Easy Street Progress–First Two Blocks

I had to work at the quilt shop yesterday so no sewing until evening.  I finished up the setting triangles and started on the blocks.  I put one of each together and am taking a break to go out to breakfast with Bill.

Here is what I have so far!

I am really liking it.  I love how the gray squares set everything else off.  How clever of Bonnie to have us use the gray as a constant.

I hope to get more blocks done today, along with getting some sewn together.

Design Wall Monday–December 31, 2012

Well, it is the last day of 2012 and I think I have managed to post my design wall every Monday – at least almost all of them.  I hope to keep it up next year.  Today I have a small design wall but will have more on it soon.

Here is the first corner of my Easy Street.  I still have some parts to finish but have most of them done and should be able to finish the rest today.

Still working on the purple flying geese.

This is not clue 2 – don’t know how that number got in there.

I have the purple flying geese to make and attach to the turquoise ones.  I also need to do today’s clue but hope to have everything caught up by tonight.  Unfortunately I have to work at the quilt shop tomorrow so won’t be sewing but Wednesday looks good.

Design Wall Monday–December 24, 2012

On my design wall today are parts of Easy Street.  I still haven’t finished the first clue but have a few made for each clue.  Here are the current ones.

and here are a few of some of the other clues.

I still have the binding to finish on the quilt I made for Bill for Christmas so I am off to do that.
