UFO Number 4

I finished up the center of UFO #4 for this month.  I still need to add the two borders, get it quilted and bound in the next two weeks.  That is in addition to the Quilts of  Valor that MUST be quilted, last months UFO that didn’t get done.  Oh – I almost forgot that I also need to quilt the table topper.  At least I won’t have to worry about nothing to do.

I can’t remember how old this project is.  It is over 11 years because it was a Bag Lady project and those stopped about 10 1/2 years ago.  The center of the quilt fits the top of a double bed and there are two more borders to add.

Stella and I went out to lunch on Wednesday after a quilt shop visit and this is on the wall.

More from the Allatoona Guild Meeting

The UFO number for last month was Number 1 – my quilt was a fairly small baby/child’s quilt I made from a pattern I wrote several years ago and taught in Las Vegas.  I finished it up and showed it at the meeting.  I also turned it in for Community Service.

Number 3 was chosen for this next month – due in August.  Unfortunately it is my Swoon quilt.  The top is finished and it is large – about 90 inches square.  I am going out of town for 10 days (going to Las Vegas with my sister to sew for 5 of the days) plus I need to finish my Christmas quilt for Christmas in July.  I still need to find a back for it.  I have a lot of fabric from Sweetwater’s Authentic line that I made the blocks from.

Here it is right before I added the last border.  I hope I can get it done in time.

UFO #2 and UFO #5

The UFO for last month was number 2.  Here it is on my original list.

Here it is all finished.

I donated it to the guild community service project.  The blocks were from the Block Lotto a few years ago.  Hopefully it will make someone happy.

We then chose the UFO to work on for this month – due in June.  This one is UFO #5.

I picked out a backing for this one so hopefully will get it quilted and ready for June.

UFO Number 8

I finished my UFO #8 in time for the guild meeting on Tuesday.  Thanks to Nancy, all the bad quilting was taken out.  I then quilted it again, got the label and binding on and was ready to show it at the meeting.

This is the back of the quilt and includes one of the panels that I used for the front.

I really like how it turned out!

I also took a photo of UFO # 6 from last month.

The UFO for next month is #2 – here it is now.

The top is made so I have to get a backing, quilt, bind and label it.

UFO Number Eight

The final UFO I am committing to is my Halloween One Block Wonder.

It is partly quilted and all the quilting needs to be taken out – I hate to take out quilting!  The tension is a mess and the back looks horrible so it has to be done!

UFO Number Seven

My UFO number 7 is the double wedding ring table runner.  I made it during a class with the guild last year and completed the wedding ring top right away.  Then it went to live with many more unquilted things.  I think it is time to put it on the list and get it quilted.

Only one more to go!  Of course that only means that they are on a list – each of them still have to be finished.

UFO Number Three

My next UFO that I plan on working on this year is my Swoon quilt made from Authentic fabric by Sweetwater.  I made most of the quilt at the Red Top Retreat two years ago.  It just needs a small outside border on it.

Since the original pattern finishes at about 80 inches, I wanted it to be a little larger.  I added a border of 2 1/2 inch squares around the quilt and then just need to add one more border of the background.  That should make it a good size for my bed.

OK – now I need to dig around and find more UFOs to list.

UFOs–Starting My List

At guild we are having an UFO challenge.  We are to pick out 8 UFO’s and turn our list in at the February meeting.  At that meeting, and for the next 8 months, there will be a number pulled and we are to work on that quilt.  If we finish it, our name gets put in for a drawing at the end.  The prizes will come from Fat Quarters that each person has to pay if they don’t finish their UFO for that month.  This is the first time we have done this but hopefully we will each have less UFOs at the end of the year.

This is a quilt that I managed to quilt last year but it just needs binding.  Easy enough when its time comes.  Now to look at more of by UFOs and pick out the other 7.  I have plenty to choose from.

Progress on Getting It Done List

Here is my list for getting it done in January.

1.  Complete Easy Street, including quilting and binding. Quilt top is complete – waiting for quilting.

2.  Quilt Winter Wonderland. Still untouched

3.  Finish one quilt for donation.  Located a quilt top and it needs to be quilted.

4.  Get out my scrappy bargello and complete the blocks necessary to make a quilt for my bed – not sure how much work that will be. I got this out and made one block.  Also counted the blocks and strips I have already cut and decided to use a Bali Pop for more strips.

Of course, I have done a lot of other things that are not on the list – isn’t that always the case.  Glad Judy decided to do a mid-month evaluation.  Perhaps this will keep me on track.

Red and Aqua

We had a UFO challenge at guild to finish a UFO this year.  I had participated in a red and aqua disappearing nine patch swap last year.  At the guild retreat earlier in the year, I put the top together.  When we had to choose a UFO to complete I decided on this one. Here it is at the retreat.

Now we have to move forward through time to this last Sunday.  I decided that since the UFO challenge was due on Tuesday, I better get moving.  I purchased an extra wide batik backing – bright red.  On Monday afternoon, I quilted it, bound it Monday night and was ready for Tuesday morning.  I had planned on making pumpkin roll to share but ended up making a Chess pie Tuesday morning.  It must have gone over well because there was none to bring home.

Here is the finished quilt.

As you can see, I didn’t put the blocks together in the usual way.  I put four blocks together with the large pieces in the center and then surrounded them with white sashing.  I had one fat quarter of an aqua print and that was enough for cornerstones.  When I finished the top, I had thought I would add a border but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it did not need a border.  I am happy with it.  It is about 70 inches square.

Another UFO Challenge

I participated in Nancy’s UFO challenge last year but only managed to complete 4 3 of the 10 projects. This year I have decided to concentrate on tops that are ready for quilting. They even have the backing made and have been stacked in a couple of bins in the Longarm studio. Since I always have a customer quilt to quilt, I just don’t get around to quilting my own, unless it is due in the shop as a sample. This year I hope to fit some of mine into the schedule.

I am going to list all 14 quilt tops, even though only the first 10 will be on the UFO list.

2011 UFO’s

I have decided to join Judy’s UFO Challenge for 2011.  I have lots and lots of UFO’s but finally decided on 12 to list for the challenge.  I tried to do a UFO a month during 2010 but only managed to finish three of the ten I listed.

I have repeated some of them for 2011 but others I decided to pass on.  I still want to get them finished someday but have decided that if I didn’t work on them in 2010, I apparently didn’t really want to finish them badly enough.

Here are the projects I want to finish this next year.

1 – Scrappy Bargello

This one is a scrappy bargello that I made in a class with Bonnie Hunter a couple of years ago.  The top is finished but needs borders before it can be quilted.

2 – Jelly Roll Quilt Along

I completed all the blocks, got them sewn together but still need the borders and quilting.  Can you start seeing a theme here?

3 – Three Sisters

This is a quilt I started many years ago and although all the blocks are made, they are not completely put together.  More than half is done and it would take very little time to finish this one.  Of course, that means borders and quilting.

4 – How Does My Garden Grow

I made this quilt during the Allatoona Retreat earlier this year.  It actually has the borders on it but needs more flowers cut and fused, then stitched down before it can be quilted.

5 – Log Cabin Stars

This one is actually finished – at least the top is.  I need to find a backing for it and get it quilted.

6 – Floral Log Cabins

This one has all the blocks made and put together.  I need to decide if it needs a border, find a backing and quilt it.

7 – Dear Jane Row by Row

This was a round robin from several years ago.  It has a slight problem since the bottom two rows were about 2 inches longer than the previous rows.  I took them off but I need to figure out how to fix it so it lays relativity flat.  Of course, it then needs border and quilting.

8 – Stack and Whack Fans

I took a class from Bethany Reynolds and made these fans.  The fabric is not great since I purchased it at Joann’s.  I was unemployed at the time and money was tight.  Only about 1/2 the blocks have the fan appliqued on the background but it looks like everything is there.

9 – Southern California Shop Hop Quilt

This is probably not technically an UFO since it isn’t started but I want to get it made.  I love this fabric that was unique to the Southern California Shop Hop two years ago.  The pattern is BQ2.

10 – Fall Border Round Robin

I found this quilt top earlier this year and could hardly remember it.  It is a fall quilt, with leaves and fall colors – not really my type of quilt but the top is done so I should get it finished.  I did buy fabric for the backing earlier this year.  After I purchased it, we decided to make kits for another quilt and needed the fabric I purchased.  I returned it and bought another leaf print which I then put somewhere safe – hopefully I can figure out where that is when it’s number comes up.

11 – Glorified Nine Patch

This is another class project from a class with Sharyn Craig several years ago.  I have several blocks completed, many other nine patches made and a hand drawn layout along with the bright print for the borders.

12 – Thimbleberries Flannel Quilt

This one needs a couple of borders added to it before it can be quilted.  I really don’t like it but it will be good for a charity quilt so I would like to finish it so I can donate it.

I really hope I can keep up with the UFO Challenge – I would love to have all these done by the end of 2011.

Halloween Quilt Top Quilted

Here is the Halloween quilt quilted.  I finished it yesterday.  Here are a couple of close-ups of the front and quilting.

I quilted it with lime green (my favorite) thread doing a variation of dwirling.  Here is the back of the quilt with the cute hearses.

Just need to get the binding done – I am thinking of just using plain black because I don’t think I can get more of the stripe which would be my first choice.

I also finished two customer quilts and will post photos after they are delivered to their owners.

On to more quilting today and teaching tonight.
