Selvage Mug Rug

A month or so ago we had a special projects day at Allatoona focusing on selvages.  We were each given a kit to make a mug rug – only selvages needed to be added.  I have no shortage of selvages so I made my mug rug but never showed it.  Here it is.

I really want to start another selvage quilt but I can’t seem to decide on a pattern.  I keep seeing patterns I like and haven’t been able to settle on one.

I also worked on my Christmas quilt today.  I have most of the rows put together and am in the process of adding sashing.  The Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild has their sew-in tomorrow night so I hope to finish the top and get the backing.

Selvage Quilts at Special Projects Day

On Tuesday we had our monthly special projects day.  The topic was selvages and there were lots of projects to look at.  Nancy brought three selvage quilts to share with us.

I love that they are all so different.  I have only made one selvage quilt.

I have lots of ideas but I would like to make another one soon.

We all went home with stuff to make a mug rug.  I have lots of selvages to work with.

Here are two selvage quilts from the quilt show.  I can’t tell you how many people asked me if they were made by me.  Unfortunately there wasn’t a selvage quilt from me this year but I do hope to have one for the next show.  I really liked both of these.

Gifts for Students

I decided to make a little gift for my students.  I ended up making 13 of these pin cushions but gave out a few without taking a photo.  Here are five of them.

I love selvages so I made these cute little pin cushions for each of the students.  They seemed to appreciate them.

I made little pin cushions from selvages for my students from the Sampler Class.  I forgot to take a photo before I handed them out but here are three of them.

Three of the students were unable to attend the last class so these are waiting for them next time they come in.

Selvage Fabric

Yes, I know I said I was going to try to slow down my fabric purchases but this one I absolutely couldn’t resist.  SELVAGE fabric!

I got it from Spoonflower and it comes in two size prints.  I love it!!!!  Not sure what I want to do with it as I know I will have trouble cutting into it.  I got a yard of each size.

New Case for My IPhone

After seeing Shannon’s and Robin’s IPhone cases, I had to get one.  My favorite quilt is my selvage quilt – Kiwi Zinger.

Here is my IPhone all decked out in the new case.

The color is not quite right – not lime enough but that is my fault, not Case Mate.  They did a great job and I really like it.

More Saturday Sampler Progress

I am not sure how/why I got so far behind on my blocks but I am determined to get caught up – at least with this years blocks.

Here is what I finished yesterday. First are two extra blocks for the Batik houses.  Of course a neighborhood needs trees.

Next is another Floral Fantasy block.

Now that the batik houses are all caught up, I am moving on to the bright house blocks.  Here is the February block.

Yesterday was the monthly Piecemakers bee.  Here are a couple of projects that Susan brought to show.  The pineapple quilt is made from all Asian fabrics and is beautiful.

She also made this selvage tote bag in a class.  I love it.

After Piecemakers, lunch and some sewing, I worked on customer quilts – finished one and started another.  I plan to concentrate on this tomorrow.

Design Wall (Floor) Monday–December 13, 2010

I was going to skip design wall Monday because I didn’t want to show the same thing again this week.  I didn’t do anything with the black/while/lime green that has been hanging out on my board.  Then I realized that I have worked on something this week – postcards!

Here they are on the design floor!

They will be going in the mail this afternoon on my way to the bank.  I hope they are well received.

Modern Quilt Guild Meeting / Holiday Celebration

Today was the Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild meeting and holiday celebration.  We had a wonderful pot luck brunch, lots of inspiring show and tell, along with a gift exchange.  We each made a mug rug and they all were wonderful.  Here they all are after we unwrapped our gifts.

This is the one I made that Pam took home.  I have been playing with oilcloth and had some scraps on my cutting table so after I made the selvage background, I cut out a couple of trees and appliqued them on.  I like it.

Here is the one I got to bring home with me.

Look at the wonderful curved piecing.  Rae learned how to do curved piecing in my class a couple of months ago.  There is even a special applique to put my mug on.  I love it.

Lots of great show and tell but just want to share one photo.  It is an wonderfully colorful quilt that Nicole is working on.  I love it.

That reminds me of my Y2K Christmas quilt that I just put on my bed this weekend.  I love this quilt too but think I want to make a more colorful one like Nichole’s sometime soon.  Guess I should start saving squares now.

Selvages in the Mail

Look at what came in the mail late last week!

Selvages – wonderful, colorful selvages!

These came from Barb, all the way from Oregon.  Barb is the sister of Dawn, who lives here in Georgia.  Since I met Barb a couple of years ago, she has been kind and has sent me selvages several times.  She uses wonderful fabrics in her projects and I am so lucky that she shares with me.
