Binding Class

I taught a binding class yesterday.  We had five students and we made a placemat.  It is a perfect size to learn binding.  They each get a kit to make the placemat, along with fabric for the binding and thread to do the hand sewing.  In the kit is a piece of pre-quilted fabric cut to 14 x 18 inches.

They cut the binding at 2 1/4 inches, join the strips together and apply it to the front of the placemat using their sewing machine.  We then connect the binding ends so that the join is invisible.  After doing this we turn the binding to the back and sew it by hand, carefully mitering the corners.  Good size to practice on.

I love teaching.

  1. That's a great idea to learn binding on a placemat!

Your brown & white quilt is looking good - I LIKE that brown!

  2. Boy, I should have binding down. I am almost done with the 36 placemats I am making for Christmas.
