We rescued Chula (or she rescued us) in January of 2000 and the Vet thought she was 2 or 3 years old at that time. She was a perfect companion to Max the Yorkie. They loved each other and she hadn’t been the same since he left us last year.
Today we had to make the most difficult decision a dog owner has to make and she is gone to doggie heaven to play with Max again. We will miss her – she was a wonderful dog.

I asked if I could share this quilt on my blog and she said yes! Jeanette made this as a BOM and finished it a short time ago. She always says that the quilts tell her who should receive them. She gave this one to her boss.
It is beautiful! She even gave the book that has the stories about each block.

We worked on log cabin blocks last night. The row we worked on has four log cabin blocks and one courtyard steps.
First here is the homework from last week – double four patch blocks.
Here are the log cabin blocks.
Don’t you love the color choices?
Next week is the final week to make blocks and then we will start putting the quilt tops together. We will be making flying geese next week and since it is Labor Day, I thought we would also have some ice cream to share.

I took the One Block Wonder blocks off my design wall for a couple of days to complete a new quilt. This one is made with a pattern called Split Decision and the fabric line is Elementary by Sweetwater. I am using a jelly roll for the center of the quilt and since the yardage arrived last week, I will pick up the borders, binding and backing fabrics and get it done! I finished piecing most of the blocks last night when I couldn’t sleep so will be able to put all the blocks on the wall and start arranging them this afternoon.
Pretty colors!

Here are the first six blocks I have made. This is so much fun and there are dozens more ready to sew.

I am making a One Block Wonder for the shop. Here is the fabric I am starting with.
At the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild sew-in last night I got all the triangles cut.
Now for the fun part – starting to piece the hexagons. I can’t wait!

Two good classes yesterday.
Here are the blocks from the morning class.
Here are the evening blocks.
Moving right along with the quilt.

Last night was Hexie Club and we had several block of the month blocks to share.
We sat and sewed and talked and had a great time. We decided to do a little gift exchange in December – anything hexie related. It should be fun.

Great class last night. Here is the homework from last week. All the stars look good.
Then we worked on a couple of new blocks. First the square dance block and then double four patches.
Looking good.

Hexies on my design wall today. They are all one inch hexies but the flower is on a 16 1/2 inch background for the Hexie BOM. The smaller on is for my SBS (Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler) that I am still working slowly on. The background on this one needs to be trimmed to 6 1/2 inches.
I still am loving my background for the BOM but I guess it is time to decide on the sashing. Julia is using 1/2 square triangles for hers. I still need to applique the August block which is a Sun.

On Friday I got a photo of Jeanette’s rows. She had worked on it at Quilt Till You Wilt and is up to date. She is using all her scraps for this project and it seems that anything goes – from Kaffe to Civil War. They all look good together.

I used the Hex and More ruler and made this little zipper bag. Isn’t it cute?
Here it is with next month’s quilty fun row all cut and ready to sew.

We had a great time last night at Fiber Art Fusion. We played with layering and misty fuse.
This is what I did – paper, selvages, thread and scraps. Needs some stitching next.

Wonderful class last night. First we hung up the nine patch blocks that were the homework from last week.
Next we started working on friendship stars. Here is the design wall after the first stars were made.
They are really making progress!

I am late with my design wall because my friends and I went on a river rafting trip this morning. We had a great time and I will tell you all about it after I get some of the photos.
Here is what is on my design wall today. It is the start of Carolina Crossroads – Bonnie Hunter’s first mystery from several years ago. I did all the parts during the mystery but never got it put together. At Bonnie Hunter club yesterday I got several of the blocks made and I am really liking how it is looking.
Stuck down in the bottom corner is my sun for the Hexie BOM. I need to get it put on the background before Hexie Club next week.

When I left California a couple of weeks ago, I brought with me the fabric and magnets to make to add to our little hexie pouches. Robin’s pouch is black polka dots and ret polka dots. Here is her finished pin cushion.
and the back with the magnet attached.
I will get it in the mail to her this week.
Here is my pouch with the pin cushions.
and mine with the magnet showing.
Cute!

This is what we saw out of our front door yesterday morning. A large tree fell across the driveway of the house across from us. Fortunately it didn’t hit anything except lawn and after a few hours with chain saws and a lot of hard work, it is all cleaned up.
In the afternoon we had a tornado warning but it was cancelled before we actually had to move into the basement. Lots and lots of wind and rain but I didn’t see any other damage in the neighborhood.

The July row for our Quilty Fun quilt is the flying geese. Since I was out of town during the month, I was behind so I caught up this afternoon. These flying geese are little. They measure 1 by 2 inches so really little.
The next row is cups but I have a week to get it finished before the next club meeting.
Melinda
We had class yesterday and made a lot of progress. Here are the blocks from the morning class.
Here are the evening blocks.
We also played with hexies!

My daughter Christina is an Ironman. She attempted her first one last year at Lake Tahoe and unfortunately missed the bike time cut-off at 90 miles by one minute. After training all year, they were surprised that the weather at the start was only 32 degrees so basically they froze in the water and especially during the transition to the bike. She then had a flat tire and had difficulty changing it and it put her behind. After the intense year of training, it was a big disappointment. At the end she said she wouldn’t try again but within a week, thanks to her husband and sons encouragement, she signed up for July in Lake Placid.
Here she is at the start of the swim.
The weather got very bad and because of lightning they pulled all the contestants out of the water during the second half of the swim. Fortunately they were allowed to go on the the bike.
She did great on the bike and moved up in the standings. After 112 miles, she moved on to the marathon. Here she is running.
She finished at about 14:30 hours – excellent time.
Christina did her first marathon at age 16 and now at 46 years old is an Ironman. We are all so proud of her.
Go Christina!

We had the second class of Beginning Machine Piecing last night. This first photo is of their homework from last week.
Here are the blocks they finished last night – nine patches.
Lots of fun and sewing going on.

This is my first design wall post in a few weeks. On the wall today is a project from Las Vegas that only needs two borders to be added. The pattern is called Mexican Star and was taught by my sister at the retreat. After adding the borders, there are many triangles of fabric that need to be sewn down (kind of like a Cathedral Window) and then it will be ready to quilt.
Here is a light version of the same quilt – interesting how different it looks. This one is not mine but I think it belongs to Caroline.
On this version you can see the loose triangles better. They will get turned back and top stitched before quilting.
Fun pattern and since it makes a small quilt, not a big investment in time.
For more design walls, go to Patchwork Times. Lots of inspiration there.
