Gifts for Officers and Chairs at Guild

It is tradition for the outgoing President to give a small homemade gift to each of the officers and committee chairs so I made Click It Bags for them.  There are a total of 18 people on the board and I made 22 bags.  Here they are in a pile before I wrapped them.

They are all made from sewing fabric.  Some of them have the black background on the outside and some have the white.  It is very cute fabric and the bags seemed to be well received.

It is also tradition for the outgoing President to get a quilt from the guild.  I got on last year and really didn’t expect another one but I was surprised with a beautiful quilt.  Unfortunately I have not gotten a good photo of it yet but hopefully there will be enough light to take a good one in the next couple of days.  Here is a photo of the one from last year.  This year’s is very different from this one but equally loved.

Doll Quilt Exchange

One of the things we did yesterday at guild was a doll quilt exchange.  The guidelines were simple – make a doll quilt that measures between 12 and 24 inches on each side.  Put a label on it and bring it to guild.  You will then get someone else’s creation in exchange.

We set up several tables to hold all the quilts for everyone to admire.

Actually, the one on the right is mine.  The one on the left is the one Mary got.  Mine was made by Barb and I love it. Look at the little tiny flying geese!

71 Quilts Donated to the Acworth Police Department

At our guild meeting yesterday, we had representatives from the Acworth Police come to accept the quilts that we have been making as part of our community service over the past year.  In addition to the quilts, the guild made more than 400 pillowcase to donate to kids with cancer in the local hospitals.

If you look close you can see the police officers in the back, holding quilts.  They sent five officers to pick up the quilts and it was fun to see the smiles on their faces as they looked at the quilts.  This meeting is always one of the best of the year.

My Gift from Barb

I finally got a photo of the wonderful gift that Barb made for me as part of the Tiny Stitches gift exchange.  Here are the wonderful pillows.

Aren’t they beautiful?  I just need to find the right place to display them while keeping them away from the dogs and Bill.

I didn’t get a photo of everything – I wish I had.  Many other wonderful gifts were exchanged.  I got two beautiful pillows made by Barb but don’t have a photo.  I will take a picture in a little while and post it.

Tiny Stitches Christmas Party

We had a wonderful dinner and party last night at a local restaurant.  The meal was great but the company was even better.  About two months ago we drew names for a gift exchange and the only rule is that we had to make the gift.  I drew Michele’s name and made a Letty’s bag for her out of my stash of oilcloth.

Here is the inside of the bag – lots of pockets.  The lining is regular quilting cotton while the outside is oilcloth.

Then I used some leftover lining fabric to make a click it bag (using part of a metal tape measure as the closure).

Michele seemed to like it a lot – I love it.  Once I get a little free time, I want to make myself one.

Design Wall Monday–December 6, 2010

My design wall is kind of pitiful today.

I am still working on the string block quilt.  I put together the top row but the side pieces were cut wrong so they have to come off and be replaced.

Modern Quilt Guild Meeting / Holiday Celebration

Today was the Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild meeting and holiday celebration.  We had a wonderful pot luck brunch, lots of inspiring show and tell, along with a gift exchange.  We each made a mug rug and they all were wonderful.  Here they all are after we unwrapped our gifts.

This is the one I made that Pam took home.  I have been playing with oilcloth and had some scraps on my cutting table so after I made the selvage background, I cut out a couple of trees and appliqued them on.  I like it.

Here is the one I got to bring home with me.

Look at the wonderful curved piecing.  Rae learned how to do curved piecing in my class a couple of months ago.  There is even a special applique to put my mug on.  I love it.

Lots of great show and tell but just want to share one photo.  It is an wonderfully colorful quilt that Nicole is working on.  I love it.

That reminds me of my Y2K Christmas quilt that I just put on my bed this weekend.  I love this quilt too but think I want to make a more colorful one like Nichole’s sometime soon.  Guess I should start saving squares now.

Yet Another Customer Quilt

Here is the customer quilt I delivered yesterday.

This quilt was made during one of my Beyond Beginners classes.  I really like the fabrics she used and she did a wonderful job of piecing the quilt.  Since the quilt had flowers on it, I quilted freehand flowers all over it.  Turned out nice.

Sue had a jelly roll and scraps and made a great scrappy quilt.  She didn’t like it before it was quilted but likes it a lot now.

Purse Class

Last night was purse class.  We are having a customer holiday party next Thursday so we moved the purse class up a week this month.

There were six purse makers at class last night, working on a variety of projects.  Most were just starting so I only have one finished project to show. Helen made this cute purse from Pure.

Here are some of the other projects being worked on.

Next month we should see projects that are either completed or close.

2011 Saturday Sampler

We are getting ready to launch the 2011 Saturday Sampler at Tiny Stitches.  Here are the blocks for the first month – January.  You might recognize them from the samples I made earlier.  Since I made the samples from scraps, we had to change some of the fabrics to ones that we have enough on the bolt to make the kits.

Doll Quilt Finished

I quilted and did the binding on my doll quilt last night.  I am pleased with how it turned out.  The top photo is the front of the quilt and the bottom is the back, made from leftover charm squares.

It finishes at 14 1/2 by 19 inches and has 216 triangles.

Now I just need to add a label.
