Guild Show and Tell

Even though we had a small group at guild today because of the snow, there were still some wonderful projects shown.  I didn’t get photos of all of them but here are many.

  

The last quilt was made from the large floral ten inch squares we traded last year.

I really love the Sock Monkey quilts.  The first one is for a member’s daughter, the back of the quilt is following it.  The third photo is for the baby of the daughter.  How cute!

Also, did you see the selvage bag?  I have this pattern from a magazine and would love to make one like it.

Snow in the South – Yet Again

There was a winter weather warning advised for today but we were all hoping that the weather people were wrong.  Unfortunately, they were wrong but the wrong direction.  The Allatoona General Meeting was scheduled for today and we have decided that we will cancel our meetings if Cobb County Schools are cancelled.  Last night no schools were cancelled but I got up early this morning to see what was going to happen.  Since this is a potluck meeting, I didn’t want to make my dish last night in case it wouldn’t be needed.

When I got up, they had cancelled some schools north of us but not Cobb County.  It was just lightly snowing but nothing was sticking to the ground.  I got up, made my agenda copies and a big pot of Mac and Cheese.  I got everything in the car and it was snowing a little more but nothing heavy.  Here is what it looked like when I pulled out of the driveway on my way to the meeting.

I wasn’t sure how many people would venture out for guild.  We had a lot less than usual but still a good crowd.  Lots of people were thinking like me and we had several nice warm dishes to share.  Of course there was still plenty of desserts also.

As the meeting went on, the snow got heavier and heavier.  We had a very short meeting and ate our lunch early.  We were all on our way home soon after noon.

You can see that while we had a lot of snow on the ground but the driveway and street were clear.  Here is a photo out of the kitchen window.

My little squirrel friend appreciated the corn that we put out for him.  It kept snowing for another hour or two but has stopped now and it is starting to melt.  It has stayed right above freezing all day but is expected to get cold tonight.  We are due to start our retreat tomorrow morning so hopefully we won’t have ice to deal with. 

I have photos of show and tell but will do that in another post.

Is winter ever going to end???? By the way, they let school out early today because of the snow.

Design Wall Monday – Gone With The Wind

Well, Gone With the Wind is on my design wall.

All the blocks are done and I thought I was just put the blocks together and be ready to put the borders on.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t want to fit together easily.  In the second row, I have got three blocks together and the points on the sides look pretty good.  I followed the pattern directions in making the snowball blocks (the ones with the circle appliqué in them) but they just don’t work.  The pattern called for using a square, drawing a line and sewing them on.  I think the squares were too large.  I had to take each corner off, resew with a 1/8” seam and then adjust the seam allowance to get them to fit to the next block. I am not a happy camper with Scarlett and Rhett at this point.

Of course, this means that they are going to take a lot longer to put together than I had planned.  I guess I will just pack them up and take them to retreat with me and force myself to finish it there.  I had other sewing plans but this is needed for Shop Hop so it has to get done so I can quilt it. Bonnie Hunter at Tiny Stitches

Bonnie was very popular today.  We had two different sessions where she signed her books

and did a trunk show.

She showed up with three large duffle bags full of quilts.  Unfortunately for me, but great for the shop – we were extremely busy all day and I was unable to actually attend either session.  I did sneak in for a little while and took a few photos.  I wish I could have attended one of the sessions.  I would have loved to see all the quilts from the second book.

Fortunately, I was able to go to dinner with her and remembered to take my books for her to sign.  We had a wonderful dinner at Marietta Fish Market.

Didn’t Terry do a great job on her version of Bonnie’s quilt.  I love the cheddar in this quilt.

Bonnie Hunter today!

Here are my Bonnie Hunter books ready to go with me to the quilt shop today to have Bonnie sign them.

Everyone at Tiny Stitches is excited about Bonnie coming to visit.  She is going to have two trunk show/book signings to day.  One at 2:00 and another at 4:00.  We announced the event with an email a couple of weeks ago and both sessions filled up within 24 hours.  I think there are a lot of Bonnie fans in the Atlanta area and we will be hosting many of them today.

I will try to get some photos today but since I am also working, might not get too many of the trunk show itself.  Will post more later.

Pillowcase for the Shop

I made a pillowcase this morning to take to the shop.  Beth painted a mural in the backroom where we keep the novelties and kids fabrics.  Part of the mural is a clothesline and we have hung a selection of pillowcases on the line.  I will try to get a photo of it tomorrow.  We were so busy today that I didn’t even think about taking a photo.

Tomorrow we have Bonnie Hunter coming to Tiny Stitches.  She is going to do a trunk show and will be signing her books.  I need to try to find both of mine and remember to take them to the shop.  Maetha invited me to go out to dinner with them after the shop closes so I will get to spend some time with Bonnie. I am really looking forward to it.

East Cobb Quilters’ Guild Meeting

Today was the monthly meeting for the East Cobb Guild.  The program was our challenge quilts for the year.  We have been lucky enough to have eight of our challenge quilts accepted at Nashville/Knoxville for the past three years but this year we did not get enough quilts of the correct size to enable us to submit them.  This is the first year that we were given two different size requirements, one being a small quilt and one being the size for Knoxville.  Only four quilts were the size for Knoxville.  These needed to be between 30 and 60 inches on each side.

Here are some of the challenge quilts that were shown today.  I missed a couple of them.

The above were the quilts large enough for Knoxville.  I missed a photo of Jan’s quilt with Adam and Eve on it but hope to get one later.  It was really a great quilt.

Next are most of the small ones.  These needed to be 20 inches or smaller on each side.

Each of these quilts were to represent a season and contain a pinwheel block.  If you look close you can find the pinwheel in each of them.

The next challenge was announce and it is about best friends.

Night Beginner Class Projects

There were six people in the night time class last night.  Two others had commitments that kept them from coming.  As in the morning class, everyone was able to put their tops together.

As you can see, two of them were able to get their inner border on.  Once again they did a wonderful job.  I really do love teaching this class and will have another one start towards the end of March.
