More Beginners

Tonight I had 8 people in the evening class.  One is a regular morning person who will be attending the morning session from now on.  The seventh person was accidently signed up for morning but always intended to be in the evening class. 

Somehow I didn’t get photos of 2 sets of fabric.

We spend most of the time the first class learning to do an accurate 1/4 inch seam, learning to cut strips and ironing/pressing correctly.  They have a lot to learn and have homework that includes making 8 rail fence blocks.

Flowers on Quilt and First Beginners Class

I put some of the flowers on the How Does Your Garden Grow quilt this morning.  I am really like how it is looking – I didn’t make enough leaves so I need to get more of them done soon so I can complete it.

I decided on colored leaves and they seem to be working out OK.

After ironing on some of the flowers this morning, I went to Tiny Stitches and taught the first class of my Beginning Machine Piecing class.  Although there were 5 people signed up, there were only 3 students present.  One will be in the evening class for tonight but will be attending the morning class the rest of the time.  Not sure what happened to the other lady but hopefully she will come next week.

As usual, there are many different fabric choices being used.  Here are the ones from this morning.

Flowers for the How Does Your Garden Grow Quilt

I got the rickrack vines on my How Does Your Garden Grow Quilt this morning.  I used a lot more of the rickrack than I had expected.  This evening I got a bunch of leaves and flowers done for the appliqué.

Next I need to lay them out on the quilt and see how they look.  In my mind, they are the right selection for the quilt but lets see what the quilt says.

Tomorrow I am starting a new class of beginners.  I always love the beginner classes so I am looking forward to it.

Selvages in the Mail and a Customer Quilt

I got a great surprise in the mail this morning (actually yesterday’s mail but I picked it up this morning).  Barb sent me a whole envelope of selvages and very nice ones at that.

I can’t wait to get started on my next selvage project.  I can’t decide what to start on because I have so many ideas.  Maybe next week.

I also quilted a baby quilt yesterday.  It was the first time I had quilted one that had both the back and front made of minkee.  I just did a loose loops on it and it turned out fine.  The baby will love the softness of this.

Design Wall Monday

Well, with Shop Hop over I put the quilt I made at retreat on my design wall.  The churn dash blocks went back in the drawer until I figure out what I want to do with them.

I put rick-rack on the quilt for the vine and am going to start making the flowers and leaves. It is just pinned on and will be more curvy when I sew it. I think the vine is looking good so we will see what the flowers do for it.  I am still planning on using my Kaffe charm pack for the flowers but am not sure if I want black/white leaves or colored ones. 

I guess I will have to make both types of leaves to decide which looks better.  I can’t wait to play with this but I have to do some customer quilts so that is what is going to happen this afternoon.

Shop Hop is Over

Well Shop Hop is over for another year.  I think we had even more people visit us this year than the past few years.  We ran out of our charms that we were giving with a $10 purchase yesterday.  Since our theme was Popcorn and Movies, we had a little movie camera as our charm.  We had also purchased Shop Hop 2010 charms that we were selling so after we ran out of movie cameras we gave them out so at least every visitor who purchased from us received a charm.

Candy, one of the people who signed up for the retreat in January, got sick that week and was unable to attend.  Once the retreat was over, we sent her the goodie bag, along with the pattern to make the mystery quilt.  She brought her finished top in today to show us.

It turned out great although now that I am looking at the photo, it looks like there is problem down on the lower left side.  It looks like she has a plain block where a pieced one belongs.

I thought I would show the little Oscars that each of the quilts in the shop received.  They looked great as part of the displays.

We had a wonderful time and hopefully everyone who visited Tiny Stitches did also.

Scarlett and Gone With the Wind

The Gone With the Wind quilt has been one of the hits of the shop hop.  Yesterday, my friend Robert, who is one of the all time big fans of Gone With the Wind, came to see the quilt.  Scarlett (Maetha) was there to great him.

I can’t believe I forgot my camera and had to take the photos with my IPhone.  The major problem was the sun coming in the window behind the quilt.  After the miserable weather we have had this winter, I guess I shouldn’t complain about sun.  The weather has been so nice that we have been able to open up the front door and have fresh air – nice.

We are coming to the end of shop hop.  We are open from 1-5 today and it is over for another year.  If you can, come to Tiny Stitches today and say hello.

More Shop Hop Quilts

Here are a few more of the quilts at Tiny Stitches during the Greater Atlanta Shop Hop.

All the employees have been busy making quilts over the past couple of months.  We also have a trunk show from Cozy Quilts. 

We have both Saturday Sampler and Shop Hop today so it will be a very busy and long day.

Shop Hop

Today was the second day of shop hop.  Our theme is As American as Popcorn and Movies.  We set up the classroom like a theatre and have been running DVD’s of Wizard of Oz,

Field of Dreams

and Gone With the Wind. 

We have a popcorn machine going all day with bags of popcorn for the hoppers.  Of course we also have candy – who goes to the movies without candy.

Here is the display that greets you as you come in the shop.

We have a P. Buckley Moss quilt hanging in the shop.  It is really beautiful and is going to be raffled off on Sunday.  I am going to buy a few tickets and hope for the best.

Pat painted the center angel panel and it is beautifully finished.  The quilting is wonderful.

I have a few more quilts to feature tomorrow.

Mary’s Quilt – My True Love

I finished quilting Mary’s My True Love quilt yesterday in time for Shop Hop. Mary made this quilt during last year during a block of the month she ran.  She loves Nancy Halverson’s fabric and patterns and does a wonderful job of organizing a block of the month.

Here is the quilt after quilting.

 

The blocks represent the twelve days of Christmas.

 

Didn’t she do a wonderful job of appliquéing all the designs.  I used lots of feathers on the quilt, especially in the borders.
