Sampler Savvy–Class Five
Here is the homework from the previous week. We worked on the Ohio Star, started appliqueing the GFG and cut for the Dresden Plate. Next week we will work on Drunkards Path, Snails Trail and Card Trick, the last three blocks in the quilts.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class Five
After admiring the homework from last week, we started making log cabin and courtyard steps blocks. One more week when we will be making flying geese for the last row. It gets exciting after that putting the quilt top together. Can’t wait.

Oakland Cemetery Tour
We went on the Oakland Cemetery Tour last night – we had a great time. We met at 5:30 and there were six different residents who talked to us. Here they are in the order we saw them.
Lastly, the lion.
What an interesting place – afterwards we went out to dinner. It was a perfect evening.

Sampler Savvy–Class Four
Here is the homework from last week.
We started sewing together the hexagon blocks, then moved on to the Bears Paw Variation. Didn’t have time for the Ohio Star but they will get the pieces ready for next week.

Hexie Club
We had our usual good time at Hexie Club last night. Every was working on something different. Michele designed a quilt based on a floor they saw on vacation. Here is what she has so far.
Karen decided she wanted a witch hat instead of candy corn for October. Here is hers.
Here are the updated blocks for this month.
No guesses on next month’s block. We haven’t been able to guess yet so we will patiently wait for November 1.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class Four
Last weeks blocks were friendship stars. Lots of points and intersections to pay attention to. A few of the students had trouble finishing their homework but everyone got at least one or two blocks done. Here is the homework.
We went on to the square dance block and then double four patches. Log cabin blocks next week.

Design Wall Monday–October 20, 2014
Nothing on my design wall today – this is rare but I put the last One Block Wonder on a flannel backed tablecloth and it is folded up waiting for the rows to be sewn together.
I have been working on projects for my Make and Take class next month. We will be working on five different projects with the idea that the students will make each one and perhaps have ideas for holiday gifts. I posted the first one last week – a travel pillow.
I finished up the second one this morning – a clock. It was actually easy to make but it took a lot of time trying to figure out how to put the actual clockworks together. Finally got it done in time to meet Lynda for bagels and flu shots. Here it is.
Cute isn’t it. I still have three more projects to work on. I am making a hexagon zipper bag, a small fabric box and coasters. I tested out each of the projects with other fabric but am now remaking them using the Miss Kate fabric from Bonnie and Camille. Next is writing all the directions for each projects.

My Quilts Hanging at Tiny Stiches
I walked into the shop a couple of weeks ago and they had hung four of my quilts.
Fun to see so many together.

Sampler Savvy–Class Three
Here is the homework from last week.
After admiring the homework we started on the Kaleidoscope block and they were all completed.
When these were done, we started on the spool block – we will see them next week. We will also be working on the hexagon flower block.

Fiber Art Fusion October Meeting
We had a lovely time last night playing with silk-screening. Here are the two pieces I did.
Not sure what I am going to do with them but they can decorate my design wall for a while.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class Three
We worked on friendship stars last night and learned to make accurate half square triangles by making them slightly large and trimming them down to the correct size. The homework was the nine patches you see here.
I didn’t get a photo of the friendship stars so they will have to wait until next week.

Design Wall Monday–October 13, 2014
Yet more OBW blocks on my design wall. I took the rest of the blocks to Bonnie Hunter club at Tiny Stitches yesterday and got all these made.
After the meeting, I brought them home and put them on my wall and here they are will all their friends.
After putting them up, I still have enough triangles to make 19 more hexies. Hopefully I can get these done soon so I can get to the fun part of deciding how to put the quilt top together.
We spent a lot of time talking about the new mystery colors and most of us have decided to use colors close to Bonnie’s selections. Should be a lot of fun but a long way to wait until we get the first actual clues after Thanksgiving.

Marti’s One Block Wonder
Marti was at Quilt Till You Wilt yesterday with the center of her OBW finished. She still needs to add borders but it is really looking good.
I can’t wait to see others from the class.

Quilty Fun!
Last night was the monthly meeting of Quilty Fun! Not a lot of people there but we did have fun! Here are a few of the rows that were shared last night.
Since I thought the second Thursday was next week (apparently I am more calendar challenged than I thought) I didn’t have my blocks sewn together or the mittens even cut out. Here are my leaf blocks.
I worked on cutting the mittens and will be caught up by next month! I promise!

Sampler Savvy–Class Two
Last night was our second Sampler Savvy class. Here is the homework from the first class.
Beautiful blocks aren’t they. We worked on basting hexies for the GFG that we will work on over the next few weeks. After that we worked on making a churn dash inside a churn dash block.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class 2
Last night was the second class of Beginning Machine Piecing. There are five returning students and three new ones started last night. Thankfully Caroline was able to assist again last night. First here is the homework from the first class.
The three new students worked on their 1/4” seam and then started on the rail fence blocks. The rest of the students moved on to nine patch blocks. We made a lot of blocks so they won’t have much more homework this week.
Next week we are going on to Friendship Star blocks.

Design Wall Monday–October 6, 2014
Today on my design wall is yet another One Block Wonder. First here is the fabric before cutting.
Here are the first few blocks on the design wall.
This quilt is going to be darker but it is also bright – the blocks are going to be fun to put together and I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
I had a little set-back on my Halloween quilt. It is mostly quilted but I am very unhappy with the back. I think I have a dull needle and it punched the batting through to the back. I think I am going to take the quilting out and start over – not looking forward to that.

Special Projects at Callaway Retreat
One of the features of our retreats is special small projects. Everyone seems to like them a lot and it is fun to take home at least a couple of finished projects.
The first one we made was a Pumpkin Mug Rug – Mary put the pattern and kits together and many of them were finished. She also taught this project.
Next I showed them how to make a Halloween hexagon coaster. I cut 7 hexagons for each person and almost everyone make their coaster.
Last was a project bag with a vinyl front. I learned to make it in Las Vegas this summer but rewrote the directions to make it a little more easy to follow. Last night we had everyone quilt the fabric and then we finished making this this morning. Many people decided to put the binding on at home but several managed to finish the whole bag.
I got a photo of Daryl’s projects. She put the mug rug and coaster in the project bag. Here they are.
Fun, fun, fun!
