Hexie Club Last Night

We had the first session of a hexie club last night.  The purpose of the club is to share our love of hexies (and other shapes) with like minded people.  We had six people attend, including me.

We started by sharing the projects that we are currently working on. I am still working on Hex on the Beach.  One of the women is working on two pink flowered hexie quilts using 3/4 inch hexagons.  They are being made at the same time and look to be almost half finished.  One was working on beautiful Patchwork of the Crosses blocks – beautiful.  Another had two finished quilt tops – one with large (maybe 3 inch) hexagons and the other with 3/4 inch ones.  There was also a cute purse being worked on.

Since I recently had the opportunity to review Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts, I cut circles and we all made one flower.

Everyone enjoyed playing with this new method and here are the results.

0613 Hexies from Circles

Mine is the bright yellow one.  I think I will attach it to a bag I use to carry my hexie project.  I don’t think I can stitch though the cover so I need to find glue that will work.

We had fun.  Next time we are going to play with Pieced Hexies – more fun.

Hexie Alert!

Look at what I found at Joann’s.

Two hexie punches!  The large makes 3/4 inch hexies and the medium makes 1/2 inch.  They do make an extra large but I am not sure what size it is.  It looks like it would punch out 1 inch hexies.  My Joann’s didn’t have it but I will stop by and check again.

Hexie-aholics

Sarah has a monthly hexie-aholics linky party and I want to participate.  This month I am going to show my Tula Pink Hex on a Beach kit.

There are 36 baggies of hexies.  I have the papers sewn on two baggies and am almost finished with a third.  I have it all packed up in my cute little case that my sister Robin got for me last year.

It has everything I need for hours of fun!

I am linking to the Hexie-aholic post here.

Design Wall Monday–July 23, 2012

My design wall is in Georgia and I am still in California – fly home tomorrow.  I am using my sister’s living room floor for today.  Here is the progress I have made on my grandmothers flower garden.  I have six rows sewn together.  There will be a total of nine rows when I finish.

I have lots of projects from last week to finish when I get home so should have something on my design wall for several weeks.

Seal Beach Day 5

The hexie quilt is out in the back yard this morning.  Robin and John had the wall painted by a local artist and it looks great.  You can see a little bit of the great flowers in this photo.

Last night we went out to dinner in Huntington Beach where my niece Tali works on Wednesday nights.  She is the DJ and teaches line dancing.  I tried to take a photo of the line dancing but it was too dark.  Here is a good photo of my nieces.

Aren’t they beautiful?

Seal Beach–Day Four

We went to Happy Nails in the morning.  Here are the results (ignore the little fat feet)

In the evening we went to El Burrito Jr. and I had Carnitas.  Imagine that I have been in California for four days and this is actually the first time we had Mexican food.  All is well with the world now.

I took the hexie quilt with me to the beach.  Here it is across the street from the ocean.

Not sure what the plans are for today – maybe some sewing.

Design Wall Monday–July 9, 2012

My design wall is in Georgia and I am in California so I am using my sister’s living room floor.

I brought the GFG with me and worked on it on the plane.  Unfortunately, I sewed on block on the wrong row so had to take some time to remove it.  I then had to put the papers back in the edge hexies.

When I put it on the floor, my grandson’s asked what it was – I told them it would grow up to be a quilt.  So what do you do with a quilt on the floor?  Lay on it, of course.

Noah is at the top of the photo and Emilio (pretending to sleep) is on the bottom.

Grandmothers Flower Garden

I haven’t been talking about my GFG but I am still slowly working on it.  I have this stack of flowers ready, 17 blocks sewn together and 6 more baggies of flower parts ready to be put together.  I have been sewing together at least one flower each night.  I need to get them finished so I can lay out the quilt and decide how to put it together.
