When I first received the patterns and threads, I debated with myself about what I wanted to make.  I really loved the chair design so decided to do it but still didn’t decide what to actually make from it.  After I finished the embroidery, I still couldn’t decide.  I had one of the little candy packs (2 1/2 inch squares) of Homecoming by Sweetwater so decided to put a small border on the piece.

The net result of all this babbling is that I am still not sure what I am actually going to make with it – probably a pillow.  It may need an additional border to make it large enough.  I don’t have enough squares to do another row, but could probably find scraps that would work.

Isn’t it cute!  I love the colors and the design and everything.  It was really fun to stitch.

Nancy Drew Blog Hop–My Day!

The Nancy Drew fabric came in the shop a couple of months ago and I was immediately attracted to it but managed to avoid buying any.  I helped a couple of customers design quilts using the fabric but was able to leave it all at the shop.  Then I read about the Blog Hop and immediately signed up.  I bought the panel first and waited for inspiration to hit.  I thought about an iPad cover, a Kindle cover, a tote bag and finally decided to make a small quilt.

I cut apart the panel and put a border around each of four of the book covers. At that point, it needed something else so back to the shop and I bought some white to put a narrow border on and some of the book fabric for the top and bottom.  At that point, it still needed something so back to the shop again.  I bought black for a final border.  I forgot to mention that I had bought a border but of course it didn’t work out so it went on the back.  It wasn’t enough so I filled in with one of the tone on tone fabrics in the collection.

I got it quilted Wednesday, just in time to post it.  I didn’t get the binding on but it is ready and will be finished tomorrow.

I quilted it with an overall swirl using a multi-colored bright King Tut.

I have such great memories of Nancy Drew books as a child.  My aunt Ida had the entire collection and I used to read one or two every time we visited.  I recently reread the first book – it was used as a decoration at the shop and was still interesting.  I wonder how many of us grew up wanting to be Nancy Drew.

Be sure to check out all of the other Nancy Drew projects today.  Here is the list.

Design Wall Monday–March 4, 2013

My design wall had my Nancy Drew quilt in progress on it but it can’t be revealed until Thursday so I put this project up to take a photo.  I am working hard on it but it will take a long time to actually show any significant progress.

The color is a little better in the second photo.  It is on the floor with a lot of sun coming in the front door where Chula is laying in a sun spot.  She loves the sun and especially the morning sun coming in the glass door.

When this grows up, it will hopefully look like this.

As you can see, I have a long way to go.  I have lots of hexies basted to the papers and am working in the evenings on sewing the rows together.

For more design walls, go to Patchwork Times and come back here on Thursday to see my Nancy Drew project.

What I am working on

I signed up for the Nancy Drew blog hop next month so I picked up some fabric over the weekend.  Here is a preview – the rest will have to wait until March.

I have an idea of what I am going to do with it all this.  Hopefully it will work out.

I have many good memories of reading Nancy Drew as a child.  I admired her so much.  Recently I reread the first book – it still is surprisingly interesting.  I wonder if children still read Nancy.
