Ruler Club

We had ruler club today and I am far behind. Here is what my quilt looked like at the beginning of the day.

By the end of the day it looked like this.

I started working on the next border but didn't finish so nothing more to show.

Here is Carolyn's so you can see I have a long way to go.

Voting Today

We voted this morning and there was just a short line - maybe 5 minutes, if that.

We arrived at the Civic Center around 9:15 and while there were quite a few cars in the parking lot there was no line to fill out the form to vote.  There was a short line in the actual voting line.

We got the forms and filled them out. At this point a poll worker came to us and said that she would take us to vote. She took us to the front of the line and we voted. I guess there are some good points about getting old!

We then went to the Marietta Diner for breakfast and I had a strawberry waffle with whipped cream as a reward to myself for doing my civic duty and voting. It was a good morning.

Happy Birthday Joe!

My son is having his 50th birthday today!  How can that be – I surely am not old enough to have a son that old.

I must admit that I stole this photo from a post by his father.  Here is the most recent one I have from this summer.

Noah, Joe, Hanna 2016

Noah is on the left and Hanna is on the right.

Happy birthday Joe – I remember 50 years ago and one of the best days of my life – welcoming you into our little family.  I love you dearly.

Casserole Covers at Allatoona Quilters Guild

We had a good time as usual at Special Projects at guild this morning.  We made covers for casserole dishes or bowls.  Only two got made today but several other people were there and plan to make them at home.

These are simple covers, not insulated carriers.  These are going to be useful especially for outdoor parties and such.

Saturday Sampler - Finished!

Sorry for the poor lighting but here is the quilt finished and hanging in the shop this morning. It measures 96 x 114 and is HUGE.  Here is a closeup photo that shows the quilting.

The pattern is called Sparkling Gems and is Designed By Annie.

Used a light gray thread and the backing is the same as the background.  I am glad it is finished!

Class with Dianne Hire

What a fun day we had with Dianne Hire today. The class was playing all day with fabrics and friends.

Here is the piece that I worked on today. I think it is finished and ready for quilting but I need to let it hang on the design wall for a few days.

This one is Ben's.

The rest are some of the quilts that Dianne brought
 With her.

I can't wait to see her trunk show tomorrow

Finished Saturday Sampler Quilt Top

I fished pie in the Sparkling Gems Saturday Sampler quilt today and it is ready to quilt. I just need to sew the three pieces of the backing together and get it mounted on the Gammill. I hope to finish it by the first Saturday in May so it can hang on the shop.

It is big and will finish at 96 inches by 114 inches.

We had Hexie club at the shop tonight and lots of fun hexies were shared. Here are a few photos.

Unfortunately none are mine. I hope to have some to share by next month.

Home Again, Home Again

Back home in Marietta. We had an uneventful flight - the best kind and arrived home around 10 last night. Bill was waiting in the cell phone lot (what a great idea that is) and found us easily.

On Saturday we made steering wheel covers. Mine is above and Robin's next.

I know the photos are sideways but I can't figure out how to change it. I guess I didn't get a photo of the one that Lynda made.

I had hoped to make some progress on my Saturday Sampler quilt but ends up cutting kits instead.

Maybe I will find time to sew tomorrow.

Happy Birthday to my Wonderful Daughter

Christina has a birthday today. I remember the day she was born 48 years ago. In some ways it seems like yesterday.

Here is my beautiful girl with my grandson, Emilio.  It was taken a few years ago but I can't find a more recent one on my iPad.

Here is the sunset from the Seal Beach pier last night.

Also thought I would share the fabrics I purchased at M & L yesterday.

I plan to use the top and bottom to make skirts, the black and white to make binding and the cute kitchen prints to make casserole carriers.

Sewing planned for today and Delta will take us home tomorrow.

Here I am in California

I know it has been a long time since I posted here. No real excuse but live writer quit working several months ago and I was so used to using it that I guess I went on strike. There is supposed to be an open version of it available but I can't get it downloaded so I just quit.

It really isn't that hard to post on my iPad so hopefully you will hear from me more often.

I'm in Southern California for a guild speaking and workshop teaching job and my friend Lynda came with me. We have been playing with hexies.

Yesterday was the workshop and we worked all day and had a great time. We went to the Elvis Mexican Place for dinner last night.

There even was an Elvis walking around.

Here are the new blocks for the first month of the latest Saturday Sampler for 2016.  We are doing two different options - Kansas Troubles and Thirties.

First here is the Thirties block, with optional border. Next is the Kansas Troubles block.

Going to be another fun year.

Design Wall Monday–November 23, 2015

We just got back from a quick trip for an early Thanksgiving with Bill’s family.  It was wonderful seeing everyone and there were 78 people at dinner.  Amazing!  We left for Missouri on Thursday and are already back home.  Susie is back from the Vet where she stayed and all is well.

For my design wall this week I have my Saturday Sampler quilt.  I am quilting it today and tomorrow and plan to have it finished by Thanksgiving.

The background looks a little gray here but it is actually Moda Bella Black!  Very dramatic!

Making Bowtie Blocks–Leaders and Enders

I finally finished another 25 bowtie blocks.  I now have 600 done.  Since the blocks are 3 inches finished and I think I am going to sew them into nine patches first.  Then if I set them 10 by 10 I think I will end up with a quilt that is 90 inches square.  That is the right size for my bed.  I hope I figured out the measurements right!

Here are the 25 I just finished.

Design Wall Monday–November 9, 2015

I have been working on several projects and plan to focus today on the finishing of our Saturday Sampler quilt for the shop.  One of the projects I have been slowly working on is Gypsy Wife by Jen Kingwell.  I actually signed up for a BOM since it uses so many different fabrics and have been very pleased with the selections I have been sent.

Here is what I have so far.  This is two sections of ten.

I have started section three but still have quite a bit more to go.

For more design walls go to Patchwork Times and get inspired.

Jen Kingwell Class

Stella and I took a class at Intown Quilters on Wednesday and had a wonderful time.  Learned a lot also.  Here is the block we made – this one is from Jen’s quilt and you will have to wait to see my version.

1115 Jen Kingwell Block

Of course she had a whole quilt made – it was beautiful.  I think my block will probably end up being a pillow!

Here is a photo of Jen showing us her method of hand quilting.  She uses perle cotton and big stitch.  I even think I could do that.
