Easy Street

I have been tempted by Easy Street but don’t have much time to sew.  I gathered up fat quarters and scraps to use and decided to start each clue and just take baby steps. Finding green in my stash isn’t hard.

I didn’t have as much purple and turquoise so picked up some fat quarters.

I have even more white and black.  I seem to use them all the time.  I didn’t have grey so picked up a couple of yards.  Here are the first few four patches.

I am using these as leaders/enders so hopefully they will just appear over time. How is that for a plan!

I used the rulers that Bonnie recommends and cut the first few flying geese parts.  I only got four of them put together but I think I will like this method.

Lots of sewing to be done but no time – baby steps!

Sampler Quilts

Here are the quilts from the evening class.  I realized while looking at the photos that I completely missed taking a photo of one of them.  Hopefully she will bring it by and I can get a photo.

Aren’t they wonderful!

Sampler Class–Last Class

1112 Nancy

1112 Marti

1112 Jan

1112 Jean

Isn’t it fun to see the quilts almost finished.  I love each and every one of them.

Sue made another quilt also.  She loved the Dresden plate block and made a whole quilt out of it.

I can’t wait until this evening when the rest of the quilts will show up.

Design Wall Monday–November 26, 2012

I know it is late in the day but I haven’t missed a design wall this year so here it is.

I finished quilting the ECQG Raffle Quilt and we got together this morning/afternoon and trimmed it, bound it and got part of the hanging sleeve on it.

1112 Triming 2

1112 Triming 3

1112 Triming 4

It took a while but careful trimming ended up with a very square quilt.  Pretty amazing for a quilt made by 50+ people.

Here it is with finished binding.

1112 Finished!!

1112 Finished!

You can see the binding in this last photo.  The back is another Kaffe print that is yellow with large flowers on it.  It is beautiful.  I forgot to get good photos of the quilting up close but will do that next time I see the quilt.

Miniatures

At Quilt Festival I bought two kits to make miniature quilts.  John Flynn has die cut kits that I couldn’t resist.  Here are the photos they let me take at the show.

1112 Storm at Sea

I liked the quilting on this one.

Here is the Winding Ways quilt.

1112 Winding Ways

Here are the kits I bought.

and the fabric in them.

Did you notice the finished size of the quilts?  One is 12”x 15” and the other is bigger – 14 1/2”x18”  I hope I can sew accurately enough to make these.

Traveling Stash

I received the Traveling Stash Box #1 last week and have finally had the time to go through all of it.  That takes a while since it was quite full.  Here is a photo of what I unpacked.

1112 Stash Box

That is a lot of stuff to put in one box.

I am picking out a few things to take out.

1112 What I took out

I found a few things to fill the box back up.

1112 What I added

Several 1/4 yard cuts of shirtings, several fat quarter of black 30’s fabric and a few patriotic fab quarters.  Also some basting tape, 3 small stilettos I made and four patterns.  I had a few more things but they just wouldn’t fit.

If you want to be the next person to receive this box, please leave a comment on this post.  I will pick a winner on Tuesday, November 20 in the evening.  Here are the rules.

RULES:

  1. Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog in a timely manner.
  2. There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.
  3. There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box.
  4. You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken. See guidelines below.
  5. Ship the box to the next person in a reasonable amount of time.
  6. Due to the amount of postage shipping is only within the USA.

As it states in the rules, you must have an active blog and I must be able to reach you.  If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave your email address in your comment.  Also, please tell me your favorite food for Thanksgiving.

You can check on the status of all the traveling boxes here.

Sampler Class–Week 7

Great classes yesterday.  In the morning we got sashing on many of the blocks.  Two of the morning students came to the night class so the morning one was quiet and small.

1112 Morning Homework 7

Here are a few of the blocks with sashing.

1112 Morning 7 with sashing

The evening class was larger than usual because of the two morning students.  First here is the homework.

1112 Evening Homework 7

Here are three of the quilts on the floor, before sashing.

1112 Pat's Blocks

1112 Karen's Blocks

1112 Jennie's Blocks

They are all so different with the wonderful fabric choices.  I can’t wait to see them in two weeks.  We are skipping next Wednesday because of Thanksgiving so they have an extra week to finish any blocks and get the sashing on.  Most were able to cut the sashing and cornerstones last night.

Make and Take

I taught an all day class on Sunday at the shop.  The topic was Make and Take for Christmas gifts and decorations.  We started with bagels and cream cheese at 9:30 and started the first project – a Christmas screen tote bag.

We then moved on to a tiny bag that is just the right size for gift cards or to hang on a tree.  It is made from 5 charm squares.

As we were working on other projects we started making yo-yos for the little Christmas Tree.  Everyone got some yo-yos made but I don’t think anyone finished their tree.

Next was a paper pieced mug rug.  I took a big bag of selvages for them to use to decorate their trees.

The last project was the most complex one.  It will be a log cabin pillow when finished.  Here is the top of one of the pillows.

The pieces were all precut so it went together pretty fast.

At lunch time we had pasta, breadsticks and salad.  Sue (one of the students) brought wonderful cookies and an apple cake.  I had purchased some of the frozen eclairs and cream puffs. We had them in the afternoon.

By 5pm we were packed up and ready to move on.  A good time was had by all, including me.

Box From Houston Arrived

My box from Houston came Tuesday and I finally opened it yesterday.  Of course I had forgotten much of what is in there.  Here is a brief preview photo of what ready to be unpacked.

As I get it unpacked, I will show you more of what I got.  The small rolls at the top are all Kaffe prints, including POLKA DOTS!!!!

It was a heavy box with books and fabric plus other things I don’t even remember.

Sampler Class #6

Yesterday was Sampler class day.  We worked on a card trick block and some of the students were able to move on to Snails Trail.  That is the last block and when finished, we can move on to sashing and cornerstones – hopefully next week.

Here is the morning homework first.

Here is the evening homework.

I am so excited to see all the beautiful blocks being made – can’t wait to start seeing the quilts laid out.

Design Wall Monday–November 5, 2012

My design wall looks just like it did two weeks ago.  I need to finish making the half square triangles into four patches before I can really start putting it together. It is going to be a large quilt.

I will be busy this week finishing up quilting the raffle quilt but hope to get a little more done this week.

Judith Baker Montano

I took a wonderful class from Judith Baker Montano yesterday.  I have loved her work for years and was honored to spend the day with her.  The class was called Under the Sea and is a small underwater scene.  I got most of the base done and will have fun finishing it at home.

Here is what my table looked like during class.

You can see part of the wonderful kit provided, the start of my project and the two books I bought from Judith.  After class, we went to the preview of the show.  The best of show quilt is wonderful, along with all the other winners.  What a great show.

Today I am taking an EQ7 class.
