Grow Your Blog Winner

While I was gone on my blog break, the deadline for choosing my winner was the 15th.  It is now the 20th and I am finally getting around to it.  Sorry for being late but the random number generator selected number 24.

Vicki H10:44 AM

My first quilt was in 1992 and a Log Cabin done in greens. I attended a class at the local Wal Mart taught by the fabric department manager. It was my first introduction to rotary cutting, quarter inch seams and a whole lot more. I hand quilted it and it currently resides on the bed in the spare bedroom.

I am sending her a message so she can send me her address.  This is what I am sending her.

0214 Grow Your Blog

I have been hoarding Authentic fabric but finally made a quilt top from it – my Swoon quilt.  It still needs a couple of borders on it but I will get it done sometime soon.  I hope Vicki enjoys this charm pack and five fat quarters.

Giveaway Winner for Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts

I used the random number generator.  I received 214 comments the the number selected was 10.  I can’t figure out how to copy the graphic but trust me, that is what was chosen.  Comment number 10 was

Deb G. in VA9:42 AM

I have finished a small hexie bag and am currently working on 3 other projects. I would love to win a copy of the book! Thanks for the chance!

I have sent Deb a message and hope to hear from her soon.

Quick and Easy Hexie Quilt Blog Hop and Giveaway

Today is my day on the Quick and Easy Hexie Quilt blog hop.  Julia Wood contacted me a while ago asking me if I was interested in participating.  Of course I was interested.  I love hexies and finding a new way to make them was fascinating.  I couldn’t imagine what could be new.  I know some people piece hexagons without using papers but until I saw the book and method, I couldn’t imagine me doing it.

Julia sent some precut circles and even a needle and thread so I read the basics and went to work.

They aren’t sewn together but don’t they look great?  Here is another photo with a couple of them turned over.

It is a quick and easy method.  The hardest part of it is cutting the circles and I can see how valuable a die cut machine would be in cutting lots and lots of circles.  Maybe this is the reason to finally buy one!

Here is the cover of the book.

I love the quilt on the cover and you need to get the book so you can see all the wonderful projects inside, especially Mickey Blue Eyes.

I have a signed copy of the book to give to one person who comments on this post.  In your comment, let me know if you have a completed hexie project, are working on one or just want the book.  No wrong or right answer – I am just nosy.  The drawing will be held at the end of the day on June 10th.

Julia has two blogs.  Her personal one is Green Quilts and she also has The Hexie Blog.  I suggest you follow both.

Here is the schedule for the blog hop.

Giveaway Results

I know I have disappeared for a couple of weeks but the work on the Quilt Show (coming up next week) for the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild has taken all my extra time.  I have pretty much everything under control so am hopefully back to communicating.

First – I have two outstanding giveaways that I need to complete.  First is the giveaway of Jennifer Chiaverini’s book – The Giving Quilt.  I have two copies to share.

Cory and Carolyn have won the books.  I have sent emails to each of them so hope to hear from them soon.

0313 The Giving Quilt

For the fat quarter pack from my blog anniversary, the winner is Amy.  I have also sent her an email.

I am so glad I finally got the drawings done.  Tomorrow is my day on the Hexie Quilts blog hop so be sure to check back.

House Update and Blog Anniversary

Here are my latest houses.  I have 20 done now but am thinking I will make another 10 so I can set them 5 x 6.  Besides, I am having fun making them and don’t want to stop yet.

Also, I just realized that I am starting my 8th year of blogging.  My first post was on May 13, 2007 and this is post #1953.  I decided I should do a little giveaway to celebrate!  At Quilt Market last November I got caught up in a buying frenzy at Sample Spree and have never figured out what to do with this fat quarter pack. There are 20 fat quarters in the stack. I am going to give it away to one of my readers.

All you have to do is comment on this post and tell me what your all time favorite quilt pattern is.  Do you love log cabins, churn dash, string quilts??  I love all kinds of house quilts, no matter what pattern is used.  I am loving this variation of Bonnie Hunter’s Happy Scrappy Houses, using my 2 1/2 inch strips instead of 2 inch like she did.

You have until Friday evening.  I will pick a winner around 9 pm here in Georgia which is on EDT.  Please make sure I have a way to reach you if you are a no-reply blogger.

Traveling Stash

I received the Traveling Stash Box #1 last week and have finally had the time to go through all of it.  That takes a while since it was quite full.  Here is a photo of what I unpacked.

1112 Stash Box

That is a lot of stuff to put in one box.

I am picking out a few things to take out.

1112 What I took out

I found a few things to fill the box back up.

1112 What I added

Several 1/4 yard cuts of shirtings, several fat quarter of black 30’s fabric and a few patriotic fab quarters.  Also some basting tape, 3 small stilettos I made and four patterns.  I had a few more things but they just wouldn’t fit.

If you want to be the next person to receive this box, please leave a comment on this post.  I will pick a winner on Tuesday, November 20 in the evening.  Here are the rules.

RULES:

  1. Be an active blogger. Post about receiving and the giveaway on your blog in a timely manner.
  2. There is a note in the box that logs where the box has been. Please add your info and place the note back in the box.
  3. There is a list of Rules and Guidelines in the box. Please read and follow these and return the list to the box.
  4. You may take anything you like from the box. Just replace every item with comparable quilt shop quality items equal to the amount taken. See guidelines below.
  5. Ship the box to the next person in a reasonable amount of time.
  6. Due to the amount of postage shipping is only within the USA.

As it states in the rules, you must have an active blog and I must be able to reach you.  If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave your email address in your comment.  Also, please tell me your favorite food for Thanksgiving.

You can check on the status of all the traveling boxes here.

It is time for another blog hop party.  I have another flannel layer cake that I will be offering to one lucky person.  No hoops to jump through, just leave me a comment and tell me what your favorite quilting notion is.  As a quilting notion junkie, I am eager to hear from you.  My new favorite notion is these clips from Clover.

Winning!

Just before Christmas I won a prize from Minick & Simpson and I found the package on the front porch this morning.  The mailman must have been running late and just put it on the porch.

After opening the box this is what I discovered.

I knew that I was going to received little packs of 2 1/2 inch squares but I had no idea there would be so many.

There are 20 packs from 20 different Moda lines.  Each little pack has 42 pieces of fabric.  Here is a close up of a few of them.

I have been thinking about what to do with them.  If I put them all together I could make 20 blocks and it would represent a wonderful cross section of Moda fabric for this season.  The blocks would end up being 14x12 and if I add some sashing, it would be a nice sized lap quilt.  I have to think about it.

Thank to you Laurie and Polly for the wonderful gift.

Bliss Fat Quarters from Dandelion Quilts

Look at the wonderful fat quarters I won from Kris at Dandelion Quilts.  She had a giveaway and I was lucky enough to be chosen.

I am using a Bliss layer cake for the layer cake quilt along and these will be wonderful to supplement the layer cake, in case of a mistake or two.  I really love Bliss so this gift is especially appreciated.

Thank you Kris!

What you can do with 5-Inch Squares

I thought I would show a quilt from the last guild show and tell that uses squares and half square triangles.  It could easily be made from the squares I am giving away in the Fall into Fall giveaway.

I really love this quilt and would like to make one.  The large stack of squares would give you a good start on this or any other scrappy quilt.’

Fall into Fall

Here is the winner of my Fall Into Fall giveaway.

kakd2384 has left a new comment on your post "Fall into Fall":

Today is the day for the Fall into Fall giveaway.  Debi is doing a great job of organizing this and I signed up to host a giveaway as soon as I read about it.

Here is what I am giving away -

This is a stack of nickel squares or 5 inch squares or charms, whichever you would like to call them.  The stack is over 3 inches high and may even grow higher .  You will be able to make a larger quilt or a couple of small ones using one of the many charm or nickel quilt patterns out there.

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment on this post.  As part of your comment, tell me what project you are wanting to start next.  Be sure that I have a way to contact you.  If you are a no-reply blogger, you need to leave your email address in your response.  If I don’t have a way to contact you, I will not include your name in the drawing.

This is open to anyone, whether you have your own blog or not.  I will also mail internationally so everyone is welcome, as long as I can contact you.  I will draw the winner on October 15.

Good luck to everyone!
