Design Wall Monday–June 30, 2014

Still working on the Christmas Quilt for Christmas in July.  Block 7 is almost finished so hopefully I can get the top finished in the next few days.

I am still liking how it is coming out.  The white sashing will set off the blocks better than how they look on the design wall.

Design Wall Monday–June 23, 2014

 062314 - 1

My latest Christmas quilt is on my design wall today.  Each block is 16 inches and there are only 9 blocks in the quilt. The pattern is Solstice by Kate Spain and the fabric line has the same name.  It needs to be finished for Christmas in July at the shop at the end of July.  I went to the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild sew-in last week and managed to get all the blocks cut and in baggies so it is fairly easy to work on a block.  The fifth one is almost finished.

As a result of making these blocks, I am also making progress on my Bowties.  Here are blocks 426-450.

I think Bonnie used 729 in her quilt but I am thinking of maybe making it a little larger so still have lots more bowties to make.  I need to spend a little time soon cutting up scraps to be ready to make more of these.

Quilt Finish–Daydreams Lattice Patch

0614 Daydreams Lattice Patch

Another fun quilt finally completed.  This is from a Daydreams layer cake by Kate Spain for Moda.  The pattern is from my sister’s line and is called Lattice Patch.  It is a fun and easy quilt.

When I make this quilt, I buy 2 yards of the border fabric and have enough left over to complete the backing.  Here is the back.

0614 Back of Daydreams Lattice Patch

This way I only use another 2 yards and split it down the fold.  The quilt is upside down with the label in the upper left corner, instead in the lower right corner.  I didn’t notice it when Debbie held it up for me.

Design Wall Monday–June 16, 2014

I am working on a quilt for our Christmas in July party.  The fabric and pattern are called Solstice by Deb Strain for Moda.  The blocks are 16 inch and there are only 9 of them in the quilt so it should go quickly.  Here are the first two blocks.

0614 First Two Blocks

There are 5 different blocks, 2 each of 4 of them and the center block is unique.  I have the next one cut out and have started sewing them together so hopefully will have more progress soon.

I got the part for my Gammill so I am off to change it and hopefully quilt!

For more design walls, go to Patchwork Times.  I love to look at all the different projects in progress.

Father’s Day

My Daddy has been gone over 40 years and I still miss him.  This photo is from the 40’s when he was in the Army Air Corps.

Sick Gammill

I have been having problems with my Gammill and I took it to Richard to get it fixed.  He worked on it and I stitched on it and everything was fine.

0614 Gammill getting service

That is my machine on the right, sharing a table with a newer model.

Unfortunately, after I brought it home and back on it’s own table, it decided to break thread every couple of inches like it did before it went in for repair.  I talked to Richard and he suggested that we swap out the rotary tension – hopefully that will arrive in the mail today.  My Gammill is 13 years old and Richard thinks that it should go back to Gammill for some work that isn’t urgent but needed soon.  He is driving there on Wednesday so if the rotary tension doesn’t solve my problem, she will get loaded on his truck for a trip to Missouri.

I hope to get quilting soon.

Quilty Fun

Quilty Fun is a great name for the club.  We had a wonderful time last night at Tiny Stitches.  The row this last month was the chevrons and there were several that had been finished.  As usual there was more talking than sewing but sewing did get done.  I cut the flying geese blocks for next months row and showed them the apple row for this month.

Can’t wait to make the next row.

Ready for Quilty Fun

I spent some time yesterday getting ready for Quilty Fun tonight.  The row we worked on this month was the apples.  Here are all my rows so far.

0614 Rows for June Class

Since we are making them in the same order as the book, there are only two rows so far that can be sewn together.  Next month we will be making a row of flying geese and they will get attached to the apples.

Fun, fun, fun!

Thread Painting at Fiber Art Fusion

What a wonderful time we had last night at Fiber Art Fusion.  We painted/dyed thread – DMC floss.  Here are the results of my efforts.

0614 Thread Painting

Now that they are dry, I need to give them a rinse in vinegar and water and let them dry again.  Not sure what I will do with them but it was so much fun playing.
