Chula

Chula had a little accident this morning and spent the day at the Vets. She broke her foot falling down the front steps. She usually waits patiently for one of us to pick her up but while Bill got the newspaper from the driveway she decided to go up to the door by herself.

She not only has a splint but also has to wear the cone. Poor Chula!

Design Wall Monday–April 28, 2014

I have made some progress on my Scrappy Mountains Majesties quilt top.  I know they will need rearranging but here are the ones I have completed so far up on the design wall.

Progress on Scrappy Mountains

I have worked on Scrappy Mountains while also working on Sisters Choice.  I had to take the Sisters Choice blocks off the design wall to make more room for the Scrappy Mountains blocks.  I have cut all the background squares but am still working on cutting more Kaffe.

0414 Scrappy Mountains Progress

I also finished an applique block for the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild raffle quilt.  It is going to be beautiful.  For the first round, they gave out blocks to piece.  Here is the one I did.

They then repackaged them and gave out applique kits.  I wasn’t at the meeting but Lynda got two so I offered to do one of them for her.  Here it is.

Sampler Savvy–Class Four

Here is the homework from last week.

0414 Homework - Class 4

We worked on a couple more blocks this week.  After class, I took my car to the car wash for the first time.  Here is a photo of it getting it’s  first bath.

I have been working on my bowties while also working on Scrappy Mountain Majesties and Sisters Choice blocks.  I have made progress on both.  Here are bowties number 371-380!

Ferris Wheel Fun

My friends and I went into downtown Atlanta yesterday – we usually stay out in the burbs.  A few months ago, a Ferris wheel was set up next to Centennial Olympic Park and we decided to go.  We set up the date several weeks ago and we could not have had better weather.

0414 Ferris Wheel

It is a very large Ferris wheel.  Each of the little compartments is air conditioned and seats six people.  There are five of us so we were all able to go together.  Here is a photo of Jan and me.

and seated opposite of us was Stella, Danielle and Lynda.

Here are a few of the photos I took of view.

See the Olympic rings in the park?  In good weather, there is water spouting from the rings and lots of happy children playing in it.

We had a great time.

Design Wall Monday–April 21, 2014

I have a couple of things on my design wall today.  At the top are the current blocks for Sisters Choice.  Still have lots more to make.  At the bottom are the first of my Scrappy Mountain Majesties blocks.  I am going to teach this project in Las Vegas this July so need to get a sample made.  I am using various Kaffe fabrics with black and white dots – also mixed.

042114

The blocks will be mixed up – not set like they are now on the design wall.  Now that I am sure of the size and that I like them, I am going to try to get them all cut out so I can work on them a little at a time.

Fabric for a New Apron

There is a new selvage fabric out so of course I want to make a new apron.  At the quilt shop, we all wear aprons that we make.  They fit our personality and this one will be perfect for me.

Selvages and hexies – two of my favorite things but don’t forget pockets – polka dots!

I can hardly wait to cut into this!

Bowties #361-370

I have been doing a little sewing – not much but a little.  As a byproduct of sewing, I finished 10 more bowties.  These are numbers 361-370.  I think I am about half way to a quilt.

0414 361-370

Last night was the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild monthly sew-in and I took my Swoon quilt to work on.  I had to add one last inner border and then I put on the 2 1/2 inch square scrappy border.  That took most of the evening.  I did get the outside border cut – just another 2 1/2 of the background to finish it off.  I measured for the first two and need to get them sewn on.  I will then only need the last two borders.

I looked at my stash and have started pulling for the backing.  I have several cuts of Authentic that I plan to piece for the back.  I would love to get this ready to quilt sometime soon.

Hexie BOM Up To Date

I finished off all my Hexie blocks for the BOM.  Ready for May!

Any ideas about sashing color?

Sampler Savvy–Class Three

Yesterday was class three of our Sampler Savvy class.  Last week we worked on Churn Dash and Kaleidoscope blocks. Here are the ones that were finished.

0414 Homework - Class 3

After showing off the finished blocks, we worked on spool blocks and then started playing with the Grandmothers Flower Garden block.  We basted the fabrics on the papers (1 1/4 inch hexagons) and next week will start sewing them together.  This is a fun group to work with.

Hexie Club

Last night was Hexie Club.  We had a wonderful time if you can imagine everyone sewing, talking and sharing projects all at once.  We put our latest hexie BOM blocks up on the design wall.

0414 April Meeting

As you can see, we all put something in our baskets – most of us added flowers but on the bottom right, Michele put eggs in hers.  We had our usual discussion guessing what the May block will be and the conclusion was flowers of some sort.  As usual, we can hardly wait.

Last month I shared this hexie pouch project with the group and two people finished theirs – unfortunately I only got a photo of one.  Rosemarie found the hexie print in the scrap bucket and fussy cut the small hexies from the bigger print.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class Two

Here is the homework from yesterday.  At the first class we made rail fence blocks and they finished them during the week.

0414 Rail Fence

After admiring all the blocks, we trimmed them down to 6 1/2 inches square and moved on to nine patches.

Can’t wait until next week!

Design Wall Monday–April 14, 2014

Today on my design wall I have my Sisters Choice blocks.  There are only six blocks so far but I have several more kits ready to make several more. Bonnie Hunter shows her quilt without sashing but her backgrounds are much more calm – with black and whites, they are much busier and will need some calming down.  I am thinking of scrappy blacks and will have to think about cornerstones.

041414

For some reason, there is a lot of red in these blocks but the next batch is more varied.  I am using green for the star points but anything goes for the nine patches.

Bonnie Hunter Club at Tiny Stitches

We had a great time at Bonnie Hunter club today.  I spent my time cutting for my bowtie leader/ender project and kitting up some Sisters Choice blocks.  I think I need 64 blocks to make the size quilt I want as I am going to add some sashing.  My background fabric is just too busy not to have sashing.  Unfortunately I can’t locate a photo right now.  I will try to get them on the design wall for tomorrow.

Michele brought two quilts to share.

Nancy also brought two.

and finally – Marla also brought two.

A New Beginning Machine Piecing Class

A new class started last night.  There are 6 wonderful women in the class and they did so very well in the first class.  As usual, we worked on getting an accurate 1/4 inch seam and how to correctly cut the fabric.  They started making rail fence blocks for the first row of their quilt.  Here is the sample of the class project.

Here are the fabrics they have chosen to use.

Hexie BOM–Not Quite Up To Date

Here are my first three months of the Hexie BOM.  This month is a basket and I have the hexies basted but not yet sewn together.  That is a project for today.

Here are ones I have so far.  I still need to finish appliqueing them to the background. Only the heart is finished at this point.

Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild Meeting

Another fun meeting of the Atlanta Modern Quilters Guild this morning at Tiny Stitches.  Instead of our usual program, we made stilettos.  It was fun and here is a photo of mine.

0414 Stilleto

Just a turkey lacer and beads with a little super glue – fun and easy.

After the meeting Karen came by and had her hexie BOM partway done.  All the hexies were made but not yet sewn together.  Love it.

She also made a couple of pin cushions from a pattern we found last month.  These are also very cute!

Hexie BOM

Rosemarie (our Hexie Club overachiever) brought her April 1/4 inch hexie block into Saturday Sampler this morning.  She added flowers to the basket and it is so cute.  I think I will put flowers in mine also.

We have several basket weave fabrics at the shop – I might pick up 1/8 yard of a few to make the basket scrappy.

On The Needles–April 4, 2014

I guess I really should say off the needles.  While Bill was in the hospital, I finished my socks.  I still need to weave in the yarn ends before I can wear them but all the knitting is done.  This is the second pair I have made with the toe up pattern, using the Fish Lips Kiss heel. I am really glad I took the class late last year.

040414

My next project is to finish these socks that I started some time ago.

040414-1

These use larger needles so hopefully they will go faster – of course that means I need to work on them.

For more knitting projects, go to Patchwork Times.
