Quick and Easy Hexie Quilt Blog Hop and Giveaway

Today is my day on the Quick and Easy Hexie Quilt blog hop.  Julia Wood contacted me a while ago asking me if I was interested in participating.  Of course I was interested.  I love hexies and finding a new way to make them was fascinating.  I couldn’t imagine what could be new.  I know some people piece hexagons without using papers but until I saw the book and method, I couldn’t imagine me doing it.

Julia sent some precut circles and even a needle and thread so I read the basics and went to work.

They aren’t sewn together but don’t they look great?  Here is another photo with a couple of them turned over.

It is a quick and easy method.  The hardest part of it is cutting the circles and I can see how valuable a die cut machine would be in cutting lots and lots of circles.  Maybe this is the reason to finally buy one!

Here is the cover of the book.

I love the quilt on the cover and you need to get the book so you can see all the wonderful projects inside, especially Mickey Blue Eyes.

I have a signed copy of the book to give to one person who comments on this post.  In your comment, let me know if you have a completed hexie project, are working on one or just want the book.  No wrong or right answer – I am just nosy.  The drawing will be held at the end of the day on June 10th.

Julia has two blogs.  Her personal one is Green Quilts and she also has The Hexie Blog.  I suggest you follow both.

Here is the schedule for the blog hop.

I'd love to own this book because it sounds like it's full of ideas. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  21. A few years ago, I bought a big box of fabric at a garage sale. There was all kinds of fabric, quilt panels, pillow panels, and even a couple of unfinished quilt tops. One of them was a Grandmothers Garden, it was so ugly and so poorly done, I didn't know what to do with it. I took it apart and started remaking the hexies. I'm adding a white path and also a purple print path to the flowers. I know it's not the traditional path, but it is mine, whenever I get done with it. It is a FOREVER project. Also, I would love to be in the drawing for this book.

I still use this little lined linen bag with the yellow and brown hexie on the front to hold the tools for my spinning wheels, although it is on a different wheel now. I really want this book so that I can see all the projects in it. The ones I have seen already have whetted my appetite!

  186. I would love to win this book and learn a new way to make hexies.
I have a long term project that I am doing using hexies that are done by stamping the fabric with the hexagon shape and layering the batting, and front and back fabrics then machine sewing around them, flipping them and hand stitching the finished hexies together. Another is done using cut out hexies with lines drawn and hand stitching the pieces together, it is a single block for a sampler quilt and I am putting the rows together.
I think this way looks so much simpler and would love to try it.
