Pillowcase Class

There were two students in class last night.  One mother and one daughter.  Daughter is nine and did a great job.  Here she is with her pillowcase.

Don’t you love the Dr. Seuss fabric?  Her mother also made her pillowcase from Dr. Seuss – here it is.

They both used the same Cat In The Hat fabric for body of the pillowcase, the same dots for the accent but have different fabric for the cuff.

As always, I made a pillowcase as a demonstration.  I finally got my Gone With The Wind pillowcase made.

Here they all are together.

Another great class!

Quilting Today

I hope to get this quilted today.  I wish I had time to custom quilt it but there just isn’t time as it needs to go to the shop as a sample right away.

Also hoping to work on my Halloween challenge for guild and customer quilts.

Teaching a pillowcase class tonight to a Mother and Daughter.  Will be fun.

Shoe Cabinet Makeover

Here is my shoe cabinet from Ikea that is in the front hall.  I keep my shoes in it and have Bill’s in a hanging shoe thingee in the front hall closet.

Not very fancy but useful.  Each sections tilts out and three pair of shoes (mostly Crocs) will fit in each section.  When we purchased it, it had black knobs on it.  While reading the Sunday paper with all the ads, I noticed the World Market ad where they had colorful knobs from India for sale.  I ran by there yesterday and picked out six different knobs to put on the cabinet.  Not sure you can tell anything from this photo but it looks great and makes me smile when I walk by it.

Here are closeups of a few of the knobs.

I really like the bright colors and the fact that they are all different sizes, colors and shapes.

Beyond Beginners Class

Last night we focused on paper piecing.  Here are the start of the projects.

They are  both planning on making a wall hanging/table topper from this pattern.  When I made the sample for the class, I ended up with a smaller table runner.

Theirs will have two more of the large blocks and be square.  It is fun and easy paper piecing pattern.

Design Wall Monday – September 27, 2010

Here is what is on my design wall today.

These are the Saturday Sampler blocks from Tiny Stitches for the program that ends in December.  I didn’t make the blocks but am putting it together for the shop to use as a sample.  I did make the two red sawtooth stars being used for setting squares.  I need to make four more of them to fill out the center of the quilt.

I am not sure the blocks are in the right place yet – I am just starting to move them around so that the busy backgrounds and the plainer backgrounds are spread somewhat evenly throughout the quilt.  There will be a darker red used for the setting triangles, a striped inner border and a paisley border.  Should be a nice quilt when finished.

By the way – I neglected to mention that I got the inspiration for the fortune cookies from Moda Bake Shop.  I did things a little different but definitely need to give credit to this post.  Thank you Moda and Megan from Brassy Apple.

Fabric Fortune Cookies

Fabric Fortune Cookies

Here are three fabric fortune cookies I made for the class yesterday.  I gave each person the materials to make 2 of them.  Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the ones they made.  I printed fortunes to put in them.

Fun, fun, fun,

Baltimore Albums

The speaker at guild on Friday was Marylou McDonald who is an expert on Baltimore Albums.  She brought several quilts and had a lot of information to share.

I now know more about Baltimore Albums that I had ever wanted to know.  I also know that I don’t plan on making one even though I admire them a lot.

Cool Gift

Look at this little zipper bag that Maetha gave me today.  It is beyond cute.  It is made from real tape measures.  It is so cute!  I love it.

Zipper Flower

A few days ago I posted a photo of a headband with zipper flowers.  I decided to make a different style last night.  Here it is.

I think I have a pin back that I can put on the back.  I like how it turned out.

Another Block for the Raffle Quilt

I forgot to mention that these blocks from Dear Hannah are 6 inch blocks.  We bought the Dear Hannah program from EQ and I enlarged all the blocks from 4 1/2 inches to 6 inches.  I then turned everything over to the Raffle Quilt chair and she is doing a great job with fabric selection and organization.  It will be interesting to see how many blocks get turned in on Friday.

Origins Quilt and Applique Block

Here is the Origins quilt top and backing – I got the border put on this morning and pieced the backing.  Now all I need to do it quilt it.

I also finished an applique block for the guild’s raffle quilt.  We are making a variation of Dear Hannah using Kona black and brights.  I have another block that I am working on – it is pieced and I am hand piecing it because I can’t figure out any other way to do it.

Here is the applique block.

The air conditioning finally got fixed today – something so simple that it is embarrassing to admit it.  We suffered with over 90 degree temperatures for five days but it is getting cool as we speak.

Design Wall Monday – September 20, 2010

The little Schnibble (Cheap Trick) is almost finished.  The top part is sewn together and I have started the second part on the lower left.  I hope to get this one finished today.  I love the Pure fabric from Moda.  I picked out the borders last week and have the backing ready so I should be able to get it quilted and bound this week.

For more design walls go to Judy’s blog and check out all the others.

Customer Quilt Delivered

Here is a T-Shirt quilt I delivered this week.

It was made for a Georgia graduate.  We see a lot of red and black quilts around here.  Don’t think you can tell from the photos but the red/black fabric is dog paw prints.

In the lower right hand corner I quilted Happy Birthday 2010 from xxxx.  Turned out great and I hope the young man who will receive this likes it.

Quilt Tops from Beginning Machine Piecing

Here are the finished (and almost finished) quilt tops from the last Beginning Machine Piecing class.

Didn’t they all do a great job?  I always love to see the results of our 6 weeks together.

Beginning Machine Quilting

Last night was the final class of the Beginning Machine Piecing class.  I will post some photos later but need to rush off to the quilt shop this morning.  Here is a photo of Marcia with her completed quilt from a couple of sessions ago.  The second photo is also of Marcia with her purse that she made in purse class.

Back Camera Back Camera

The purse pattern is called the Two Hour Purse – not a name that is well chosen for the time it actually takes to make the purse.

More later…

Blocks Made

I made some blocks this morning for alternate blocks for the Saturday Sampler quilts.  The last blocks will be done in December and I hope to get one of the quilts finished to show in November.  We are doing two different colorways of a beautiful paisley collection and the blocks are the same except for color.  Here are a few of the black ones I have made.

The other colorway is red, with the same prints.  Barb is going to finish the black quilt for the shop so I will make the red one.

Here are the blocks I made this morning.

The quilt will require 6 blocks of the stars.  I also made a couple of black stars so we could make sure the fabric looked good with the Saturday Sampler blocks.  It looks great with both.

I took the stars into the shop and we auditioned them with the rest of the fabric for the quilt.  Hopefully this weekend I can get the block kits for October, November and December, get the blocks made and then put the quilt together.

I also picked up the border fabric for the Schnibbles quilt.

Piecemakers Yesterday

The monthly meeting of the Piecemakers Bee met yesterday.  We didn’t have a big turnout but we had fun.  For a little project, I taught them to make tissue covers.

If you are interested in making them, the tutorial is on my sidebar.

Shop Samples Being Worked On

I finished putting the Origins quilt together and got the first border on it.  I didn’t have the outside border yet but stopped by the store this morning and picked it out.  I hope to get the border on it later tonight.

Last night was one of those nights when I just couldn’t sleep so I got up and cut out this little project.

It is made from one charm pack and a small amount of background.  I also picked out the border for it when at the shop.  Nothing is sewn together yet but it is pretty small so should go together fairly quickly. This little quilt is made from Pure by Sweetwater/Moda and the pattern is by Miss Rosie.  It is called Cheap Trick.

Now that I have it up on the wall, I see a few colors that have to be moved.  It is close but not quite right yet.

Design Wall Monday – September 13

Here is what is on my design walls today.  I have all the blocks made for my quilt made from a Origins Layer Cake by Basic Grey.  I have moved some of the blocks around but am close to the final arrangement.  Next is sewing the blocks together into blocks of four, checking the placement again and sewing the whole thing together.

For more design walls, go to Judy’s blog here.

Customer Quilt

Here is another customer quilt that I delivered yesterday.  It was beautifully made and fun to quilt.

Here is the back.  She wanted meandering leaves so that is what she got.
