This is one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever seen. It is about 89 x 106. It is made completely from batiks and the center applique is an adaption of the Gazebo which is in the Marietta Square, which is in downtown Marietta, the city that most of East Cobb part of. We live in Cobb County, Georgia - on the East side obviously.
This was a real challenge to quilt. I met with the raffle quilt committee and we jointly decided on a plan for quilting. I worked with the plan for the most part and only did a few things differently.
This photo is of the center of the quilt. I stitched in the ditch of all the trees and the gazebo itself. I then added clouds in the sky and outlined all the bricks. My favorite thing in the quilt is the pathway that I quilted like cobblestones.
Surrounding the center are four beautiful floral bouquets. I stitched around each element of the applique and added some dimension to the the large flowers. After the binding is done, there will be some dimensional flowers added.
Here is a close-up of the border. I thought it looked like tile/cobblestones and did a freehand flower in each of them.
The guild is going to have this quilt professionally photographed and I will post another photo when I get it.
Melinda, you did a wonderful job with the quilting - how brave of you to take that on!! Let me know when the raffle tickets go on sale because I'll definitely want to buy some. How are things going with the guild these days? I understand there were some unexpected resignations.
