I loved this hexie quilt!
Also, there was a Mariners Compass quilt class yesterday at the shop. Each person got one section completed and they hung them up together.
Looks great doesn’t it.

About a month ago I gave my friend Nancy a set of Pyrex Bowls. This month she gave me this.
A selvage pouch with a bright orange zipper. Here is the back of it.
She has a great selvage collection and I love what she made for me. The funniest part is that inside was a bunch of magazine card inserts. Not many people would love to get them but they are perfect for punching hexagons with my new punch.
Edyta Sitar is the speaker at guild this morning – should be interesting. Lynda and I are also going to lunch with her along with other Executive Board committee members.
I hope to take lots of photos.

Here are a few of the photos from this morning. The guys arrived at 7 am and left about 1 1/2 hours later – amazing.
Here is what is left.
Lots and lots of firewood. Turns out there is damage to the roof. We even have blue tarps!
It looks like we need a new roof – the insurance adjuster will be here Monday at noon.
Much calmer around here now.

Last night at 3am, I heard a noise but wasn’t sure what it was. Bill was going to leave for Missouri this morning to visit his mother and when he started to pack up my car to drive at 4:30 am, he saw that a tree had hit the house. He brought the suitcase back in the house and called to say he wasn’t coming. I called the insurance company this morning and we are waiting for a tree guy right now.
Here are a couple of photos of the roots of the tree – obviously rotten.
We are lucky it didn’t break though the roof but I am sure there is some damage.

Last Saturday we had a mystery till midnight class at Tiny Stitches. I had precut strips for each person so they had a head start on the project. I found cute little baskets and water bottles at the dollar store and used them to package up the kits.
As you can see, they had two color choices.
Purple
or Brown
They got all the pieces of the blocks done, but didn’t have time to actually make the blocks. I hope to get a photo this week of one finished. I am sure that at least Sue will complete hers.

Still have houses on my design wall. Only 4 more and I can start putting the quilt together. Maybe this week.
I am sidetracked by making a Halloween quilt for the shop. No photos yet.

There were three of Bonnie Hunter designs at the show. First was mine – Easy Street.
Next is Terry’s
It has at least a million pieces. Last is Michele’s quilt.
Lots of pieces in each quilt – typical of Bonnie Hunter designs.

At the quilt show last week one of my favorite areas is the small treasures auction. Guild member make and donate small quilts for a silent auction. I have bid on quilts other years but for some reason or another, I never won one. This time I was determined to get a particular one, although I bid on several. It worked! I brought home this wonderful little quilt by Stella.
It is the same bright colors and reminds me of the raffle quilt. I love it. I still haven’t decided on the perfect place to hang it.

Here are my hexies from the HGTV swap. I found this container at Joann’s yesterday! Look at the wonderful colors. Each color has six identical basted one inch hexies. I think I will use black on white prints for the center of the flowers but can’t decide if I want to use a single print (black dots on white) or multiple black on white prints.
While at Joann’s, I finally found the punch I have been looking for. They had several and I was tempted to buy a couple extra to share but decided on only one.
On the back it says it punches 2 inch shapes. They measure from point to point and I thought the sides would be 1 inch – Yea! I punched one hexie and then measured it against one from Paper Pieces. They are exactly the same size!!!!!!
I am excited! Something good to use all those pesky inserts from magazines.

Here are a few of the more realistic quilts that were shown.
I love this type of quilt but don’t think it is in me to make one.

We had the first session of a hexie club last night. The purpose of the club is to share our love of hexies (and other shapes) with like minded people. We had six people attend, including me.
We started by sharing the projects that we are currently working on. I am still working on Hex on the Beach. One of the women is working on two pink flowered hexie quilts using 3/4 inch hexagons. They are being made at the same time and look to be almost half finished. One was working on beautiful Patchwork of the Crosses blocks – beautiful. Another had two finished quilt tops – one with large (maybe 3 inch) hexagons and the other with 3/4 inch ones. There was also a cute purse being worked on.
Since I recently had the opportunity to review Quick and Easy Hexie Quilts, I cut circles and we all made one flower.
Everyone enjoyed playing with this new method and here are the results.
Mine is the bright yellow one. I think I will attach it to a bag I use to carry my hexie project. I don’t think I can stitch though the cover so I need to find glue that will work.
We had fun. Next time we are going to play with Pieced Hexies – more fun.

Thought I would share a few quilts from the show over the next few days. First I finally took a photo of my third quilt that was in the show. This was made for a guild challenge and I named it Dresden Sky.
Next are two quilts that I quilted. They are from the same retreat pattern but look quite different. First is Jennie’s quilt.
And then Danielle’s
Next is Alicia’s beautiful wool quilt.
Here are two quilts from my Magical Slice and Dice class. First is Patrick’s.
Here is Marti’s from the class.
Marti had a second quilt in the show from my Sampler Savvy class. She won a honorable mention ribbon for this one.
More tomorrow!

My design wall looks very much like it has the last few weeks. Now that the quilt show is over, I am almost finished with the work of Quilt Entry. I have about 20 quilts I brought home last night that have to be shipped back to their owners and I will be finished.
Now that the work is almost finished, I should be able to get the quilt finished. I still need nine more houses. At the show, I bought a roll of Kaffe greens that I will be using for some of the houses. Tonight I have to go to a basket class. Our teacher is not able to continue teaching due to other work requirements, and I am trying to find out if it is something I can teach. Guess I better make a few before I can tell.
For more design walls, go to Patchwork Times.

It is hard to believe that today is the last day of the show. We worked so hard for so long and it is almost over. Today I thought I would share photos of my three quilts hanging.
I guess I forgot to take a photo of my little one. Will be sure to get it done today!
Off to the show.

Today was a great day at the Quilt Show. Here is a view from the back of the top floor.
After the excitement of the Tornado Warning during the preview party, the weather today was perfect. I spent most of the morning outside welcoming our guests and it was lovely out. Unfortunately, the Civic Center got a new air conditioner and it really works – we almost froze to death so sweaters are in the list for tomorrow.
I haven’t taken many photos yet but hope to find time to do it tomorrow.
Melinda
We had the preview party in the middle of a tornado watch last night. Fortunately the Civic Center is a designated shelter and everyone was safe but it was a scary time. It was a wonderful party and is a wonderful show. My friend Charlotte and the talented quilter Shannon won Best of Show. Their quilt is unbelievable!
Here is Charlotte with her first place and best of show ribbons.
The raffle quilt is hung and looks beautiful. I bought tickets and certainly hope I win it.
Almost time to pick up Lynda and be on our way – hope to see some of you there!
