I decided to start making Vanilla. I found vanilla beans on sale on Amazon a few weeks ago and have been looking for bottles to use. I found these cute bottles at TJ Maxx today. The one with the selvage tied to it is made with Vodka and the other one has rum. When I went to the package store, the clerk told me that he has a customer who always makes vanilla with rum so I decided to try both to see of there is a difference.
I have been reading about how many beans to add to each bottle. I started with four beans in each but since I have a few more beans I think I am going to add one more to each bottle. I hope to have good vanilla by the holidays.

I've wanted to do this but was advised that it's almost impossible to make it cheaper than the store and no difference in flavor. I'll be watching to see if you agree with this opinion!
