The Giving Quilt - Giveaway

I was contacted by Mary Pomponio from Plume Books.  They are publishing Jennifer Chiaverini’s The Giving Quilt early in April.  I bought the book as soon as it came out and really enjoyed it – as usual.  Mary sent me two books and some pins to give away.  I have read all of Jennifer’s books except Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker, which is sitting here waiting for me.

0313 The Giving Quilt

If you are interested in receiving one of the books or pins, leave a comment on this post.  For fun, tell me what your favorite quilt is that you gave away.  Is it one you gave to a charity, to a friend, to a family member?  Is there a story behind it?

I think my current favorite is the Red Socks Quilt for my friend Danielle.

0313 Danielle's Quilt

I will choose winners using the random number generator on Sunday, March 31 in the evening.

Good luck – wonderful book and lovely pins.

  7. I have read most of her books. I've enjoyed them all. My favorite quilt that I gave away is the one I did for my daughter while she was in college. I procrastinated for four years because of the quilt called for 13 large (12" diameter) circles and I was afraid I would not be able to do them perfectly. Thanks to a lovely lady I met at the local quilt shop and her encouragement, I finished the quilt before Sara graduated. Her advice was that "Every journey begins with the first step". So true, if I hadn't started, it would still be a UFO!

  11. My favorite quilt that I made was a blue and white log cabin. It was my sons baby quilt that, ended up larger than twin size. He loved some of the batting right out of it and most of the binding is very worn. It's now packed away for his children, someday(he's only 13 yrs old). Thanks so much for the chance to win, I haven't read this one yet but, I have read the rest. Jennifer's books are the best! ;-> Toni Anne

I have a great story about giving quilts. My son and daughter are grown up. Son has 4 kids - all have several quilts. Daughter is single and has a "collection" of quilts. Susy's friends all received quilts when they graduated from college, got married or had babies. One of her friends from high school lost touch with the HS friends. Two years ago he came back to the area. He realized that he never got a quilt from "Mrs. J.". My daughter put in a good word. I made a great quilt of brown/blue batiks. Two years passed. Quilt had an embroidered label. This past weekend Susy was in town at the same time Eric was here. Susy invited him over. He came into our family room and was talking with all of us. Susy handed him THE QUILT. He was so excited he Jumped up and down. He is 42 years old and he had tears in his eyes and hugged me 3 different times. That is why I make quilts - for the joy and love of making something for other people. I love the quilt fiction books and your blog.

  13. I lead the Hugs Ministry at my church and we make quilts that go to the local fire department for kids in crisis situations. The firemen shared with us one day that they had seen the kids in a family playing with their quilts in the front yard. I really meant a lot to me to hear that and the firement were very touched as well. Take care and God bless, Cory

  16. When my daughter graduated from high school, I made two matching quilts. She had the same best friend through middle school and high school; I went through my photo albums and found my favorite pictures with the two of them together and made them star quilts with the pictures photo transferred for the star centers. I gave one to my daughter and one to her best friend. Pam C

  26. I think my favorite quilt was the Wedding quilt that I gave to my son and daughter-in-law. It had an appliqued bride and groom in Sunbonnet Sue style for the center and then autograph blocks surrounded the center. It is fun to look at all the signatures to remember.

  27. I had found an old top at a yard sale and hand quilted it. I loved it! It was a pattern that I had not seen before or since. I gave it to my boss where I was working at the time for his 55th birthday. What a surprise it was for him!

  28. It is so hard to choose since while making a "to be given away" quilt it becomes my favorite and I struggle letting it go. But I think the one I struggled the most with was an Eleanor Burns sampler quilt that I did my first applique border for. I also made little drunkards path blocks for sashing so that quilt took a lot of work. I was so happy with it that I had to pack it up as soon as it was quilted, just so it would be out of my sight. ;-) By the way, I have and have read all of Jennifer's books.

  30. Baby quilts are what I make. All the quilts I have given away for charity are my favorites while I am working on them. I try to make each one special with a block of embroidery. On the back I label it with "made with love for a very special baby" and the year made. I never include my name.
