Melinda Quilts etc
I taught two sessions of the beginners class today. We reviewed the log cabin blocks, made a square dance block and started on friendship stars.
As usual, they all did a great job.
Next week we are going to work on flying geese blocks and then put the quilts together. I can’t wait.

I finished up and delivered two customer quilts. The first one is bright and cheerful.
Next was the first quilt by a young woman and has the names of bible verses quilted into it. It is for her boyfriend and is named “Covered in Scripture”.

Today was the monthly meeting of the Piecemakers Bee. Here is what I took to the meeting for our project.

As you can tell, we had a great time making our chicken pin cushions. Fun was had by all.

Well, another week went by with no change to my design wall. I still have the “How Does My Garden Grow” quilt waiting for more appliqué flowers and leaves. The other wall still has the small collection of disappearing nine patches.
Hopefully I can get the garden quilt off the wall this week and work on more disappearing nine patches for the class this summer.

Today is my sister’s birthday. We have a small family, it was just Robin and me growing up. Since I was 4 1/2 years older than she was, we didn’t have a great deal in common when we were very young. We did not have any other brothers or sisters. Our father had colon cancer and we lost him in 1970 when he was only 55 years old. Our mother lived a good long life and we lost her a little over six years ago at age 89. So now, it is just the two of us. Of course we both have children and grandchildren and husbands and friends but from our childhood, we have each other.
Our children were all born within 17 months of each other. My two were the first and last and her daughter was right in the middle. They grew up together and consider themselves closer than cousins, even though they live a world apart from San Francisco, to Southern California to Sweden.
We share a lot, including a love of family, quilting and sewing. Robin is a wonderful designer and has many patterns available. She is the designer of the Letty’s Bag that you have seen so many photos of in the past couple of months. We don’t see each other very often but keep in touch with email and phone. Hardly a day goes by that I don’t talk with her either on the phone or via email. We both comment on each other’s blogs regularly and I think of her all the time.
In 1999 she decided we should go to a Mary Ellen Hopkins seminar in Las Vegas so we did. Of course it was in July and about a million degrees but we had a great time. We have missed some of the annual trips to Las Vegas but we have gone the past several years and are busy planning our week in July this year. Mary Ellen no longer attends the workshop so we have guest teachers during the week. Last year, I assisted as Robin taught and this year, both of us will be teaching for a day. I look forward to my week with Robin all year long and start planning for the next one as soon as I get home each year.

First thing this morning, there were more Letty’s bags brought into the shop for me to see. These two were from the Thursday class. First is Chris’ bag.
Don’t you love this bag – the only thing she has left to do is add a button to the pocket. Next is Madeline’s bag.
There is a slight issue with this bag – she threaded the handles wrong but it won’t be difficult to fix. She probably has it done by now.
Next was a quilt from the retreat in January. Karen made this beautiful quilt.
Then Pat and Roxanne came in – Roxanne had a piano bench cover/pad she made for her son.
and Pat had an egg shaped table runner.
Michele came in to cover us for lunch and brought a quilt she is working on. Her sister went to Hawaii and brought a set of six inch Hawaiian squares. This is what she is working on.
Look closely at the appliqué in the center – It is cats!

I spotted another Letty’s Bag at Tiny Stitches this afternoon. Lynn said she made it Sunday morning and it was easy!

Tonight was a great purse class. We had six people there and there were five Letty bags being made along with one crayon bag.

I really love this line and have fabric to make a little Letty bag. Need to get going on that soon.
