Bowties–Numbers 526-550

While working on other projects (in the middle of the night as I am going through a period of not sleeping well) I have been making bowties as leaders/enders.  I am on the downhill slope as I need about 900 and I now have 550 – plus about 7 more on the design board.  I only count them when I have 25 on the board, then I put them in a baggie and they join their friends waiting.

I am starting to think about how to put them together someday. At this point I am considering making 9 patches with all the bowties going the same direction.  I think I would be able to then play with the design without having so many little pieces.

Fun Projects at Tiny Stitches

I went to work last night and found two projects I thought I would share.  First is Donna’s Letty’s Bag.  She used glow in the dark fabric.

I really love it – wish it was mine.  If you are interested in the pattern you can find it by clicking on My Sister’s Blog on the left side of my blog and follow it to Robin’s blog.  It is one of my sister Robin’s patterns.

Next is a quilt by Cheryl.  What a great quilt.

My connection to this quilt is that she didn’t have a good bright fabric collection so I gave her my 2 1/2 inch strip box and she used it to do the last word.

Enjoy!

UFO Number 4

I finished up the center of UFO #4 for this month.  I still need to add the two borders, get it quilted and bound in the next two weeks.  That is in addition to the Quilts of  Valor that MUST be quilted, last months UFO that didn’t get done.  Oh – I almost forgot that I also need to quilt the table topper.  At least I won’t have to worry about nothing to do.

I can’t remember how old this project is.  It is over 11 years because it was a Bag Lady project and those stopped about 10 1/2 years ago.  The center of the quilt fits the top of a double bed and there are two more borders to add.

Stella and I went out to lunch on Wednesday after a quilt shop visit and this is on the wall.

Christmas Table Topper

Next month the three (yes that is right three) quilt shops in Marietta are having a yearly small shop hop called Sweet Home Marietta.  The focus this time is table settings.  Each shop will have a free pattern to give out.  Ours is going to be a table topper celebrating holidays.  Each employee is making a version of the table topper to display.  I selected bright Christmas fabric from Michael Miller.

First I made the center of the top and was quite upset with the way it turned out.  Can you see the problem?

If I had wanted to line up those bottom stripe, I couldn’t but by accident, it sure did.  I then took it apart and made sure the stripes were not lined up.  I think it looks better now.  I also got the border put on.

Now it just needs to be quilted and it is done.

Design Wall Monday–August 10, 2015

Yea!  I finished the Christmas quilt top yesterday.  There are a lot of pieces in this quilt and some pretty tricky piecing going on.  It is now ready for quilting and I bought a backing and white batting for it.

It is 72 x 77.  I even made the binding for it and will have it ready to put on as soon as I figure out how to quilt it.

Selvage Mug Rug

A month or so ago we had a special projects day at Allatoona focusing on selvages.  We were each given a kit to make a mug rug – only selvages needed to be added.  I have no shortage of selvages so I made my mug rug but never showed it.  Here it is.

I really want to start another selvage quilt but I can’t seem to decide on a pattern.  I keep seeing patterns I like and haven’t been able to settle on one.

I also worked on my Christmas quilt today.  I have most of the rows put together and am in the process of adding sashing.  The Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild has their sew-in tomorrow night so I hope to finish the top and get the backing.

Fiber Art Fusion–Silk Painting

What a wonderful time we had last night!  Diane shared silk with us and we learned how to paint on silk.  It was a lot of fun.  The first piece is mine.

The paint has to dry for a few days and then the pieces have to be steamed for about 3 hours.  Diane kindly agreed to take them home and do this for us.  Hopefully we will get our pieces back next month.

Hexies!

I am making batik hexies for a special project.  I worked on some today at the Allatoona Quilters’ Guild meeting.  We had a great presentation by Andi Barney about Modern Quilts.  It was fun.  Here are the hexies I have so far.

0815 Hexies

I am not sure how many I need since I am making it up as I go.  I think probably nine will work so not many more to make.

I will show the finished project later.

Design Wall Monday–August 3, 2015

I know I disappeared again but I had a good excuse.  Bill had gallbladder surgery and ended  up in the hospital for eight days with complications.  At least the gallbladder is gone and hopefully he will feel better soon.  It has been a slow process. When he went to the hospital I was in Las Vegas with my sister but thanks to Delta, was able to get home the next morning.

I think things are getting back to normal and I actually started sewing again.  I have missed it.  We spent the morning at Tiny Stitches and I worked on my Christmas quilt.  It was supposed to be done for Christmas in July but Christmas is always coming so I hope to get it done soon.  I finished up all the blocks to day and have it up on the design wall at the shop.

0815 All blocks

I still need to put the rest of the rows together and then add the sashing.  At least the reindeer are done – they were a challenge.

I start a new beginner class tonight – wish me luck!  Twelve students!
