Hexie Sighting at Ted’s Montana Grill

After the wonderful class on Thursday, Lynda and I decided a glass of wine was in order.  We stopped at Ted’s Montana Grill and had Bison Ridge Chardonnay.  We also had some great onion rings as a snack, which turned into dinner instead of a snack.

Anyway, the highlight of the evening (except for the great company) was the floor.

What a great hexie pattern it makes.

Here is the raffle quilt for the East Cobb Quilters Guilds for 2015.  It is beautiful!

Here is a close-up of a small section.

0814 Appliqued blocks

I appliqued a couple of these blocks but of course have no idea which ones.  It was fun to be a part of making such a wonderful quilt.

I will have tickets for sale next month for the quilt and it will be raffled off at the end our our Quilt Show on June 13, 2015.  I will post again when I have tickets in my hand.

We had a great time in class yesterday. We were supplied a kit of transparent fabrics and a few patterns and set to work. Here are the samples that Esterita had to inspire us.

Chula–Best Chihuahua Ever 1997/1998–August 27, 2014

Chihuahua 1

Chula 1007

Chula 1206

We rescued Chula (or she rescued us) in January of 2000 and the Vet thought she was 2 or 3 years old at that time.  She was a perfect companion to Max the Yorkie.  They loved each other and she hadn’t been the same since he left us last year.

Today we had to make the most difficult decision a dog owner has to make and she is gone to doggie heaven to play with Max again.  We will miss her – she was a wonderful dog.

Jeanette’s Beautiful Quilt

I asked if I could share this quilt on my blog and she said yes!  Jeanette made this as a BOM and finished it a short time ago.  She always says that the quilts tell her who should receive them.  She gave this one to her boss.

It is beautiful!  She even gave the book that has the stories about each block.

Don’t you love the color choices?

Next week is the final week to make blocks and then we will start putting the quilt tops together.  We will be making flying geese next week and since it is Labor Day, I thought we would also have some ice cream to share.

Design Wall Monday–August 25, 2014

I took the One Block Wonder blocks off my design wall for a couple of days to complete a new quilt.  This one is made with a pattern called Split Decision and the fabric line is Elementary by Sweetwater.  I am using a jelly roll for the center of the quilt and since the yardage arrived last week, I will pick up the borders, binding and backing fabrics and get it done!  I finished piecing most of the blocks last night when I couldn’t sleep so will be able to put all the blocks on the wall and start arranging them this afternoon.

Last night was Hexie Club and we had several block of the month blocks to share.

We sat and sewed and talked and had a great time.  We decided to do a little gift exchange in December – anything hexie related.  It should be fun.

Design Wall Monday–August 18, 2014

Hexies on my design wall today.  They are all one inch hexies but the flower is on a 16 1/2 inch background for the Hexie BOM.  The smaller on is for my SBS (Sylvia’s Bridal Sampler) that I am still working slowly on.  The background on this one needs to be trimmed to 6 1/2 inches.

0814 June Flower and SBS block

I still am loving my background for the BOM but I guess it is time to decide on the sashing.  Julia is using 1/2 square triangles for hers.  I still need to applique the August block which is a Sun.

Jeanette’s Row Quilt Progress

On Friday I got a photo of Jeanette’s rows.  She had worked on it at Quilt Till You Wilt and is up to date.  She is using all her scraps for this project and it seems that anything goes – from Kaffe to Civil War.  They all look good together.

Design Wall Monday–August 11, 2014

I am late with my design wall because my friends and I went on a river rafting trip this morning.  We had a great time and I will tell you all about it after I get some of the photos.

Here is what is on my design wall today.  It is the start of Carolina Crossroads – Bonnie Hunter’s first mystery from several years ago.  I did all the parts during the mystery but never got it put together.  At Bonnie Hunter club yesterday I got several of the blocks made and I am really liking how it is looking.

Stuck down in the bottom corner is my sun for the Hexie BOM.  I need to get it put on the background before Hexie Club next week.

Hexie Pin Cushions

When I left California a couple of weeks ago, I brought with me the fabric and magnets to make to add to our little hexie pouches.  Robin’s pouch is black polka dots and ret polka dots.  Here is her finished pin cushion.

Excitement in the Neighborhood

0814 Tree down across the street

This is what we saw out of our front door yesterday morning.  A large tree fell across the driveway of the house across from us.  Fortunately it didn’t hit anything except lawn and after a few hours with chain saws and a lot of hard work, it is all cleaned up.

In the afternoon we had a tornado warning but it was cancelled before we actually had to move into the basement.  Lots and lots of wind and rain but I didn’t see any other damage in the neighborhood.

Quilty Fun–Flying Geese

0814 Quilty Fun - Flying Geese

The July row for our Quilty Fun quilt is the flying geese.  Since I was out of town during the month, I was behind so I caught up this afternoon.  These flying geese are little.  They measure 1 by 2 inches so really little.

The next row is cups but I have a week to get it finished before the next club meeting.
