Design Wall Monday–September 30, 2013

My design wall is unchanged again.

Last week was another week of visits to the hospital with a friend’s husband (thankfully he had 3 stents put in and is doing much better).  I didn’t get anything done!  This week is looking better so hopefully I will have some progress to share.

Catching Up with Beginning Machine Piecing

Hopefully I can get back to regular posting – I have missed it but so much was going on that it just wasn’t a priority.  The next to last class of Beginning Machine Piecing was last Wednesday which means the last class is tomorrow!

Here are the quilts laid out last week.  The students were putting sashing on for their homework so we will put borders on this week.

Can’t wait until we see the borders.  They will complete the quilts!

Design Wall Monday–September 23, 2013

Absolutely nothing went on in my sewing room this week.  The Georgia Quilt Show was held in Cobb County for the first time and Tiny Stitches had a booth there so that is where I was much of the week/weekend.  In addition, the local Marietta shops had a mini-shop hop so I worked part of that also.  Busy, busy, busy.

My design wall looks exactly like it did last week.

Several people asked about the pattern for these wonderful spool blocks.  I made this top in a class with Ami Simms and the pattern is only available in a class from her.  If you ever get the chance, take a class from her!  The spools are 3-D and have a piece of batting as stuffing.  Wonderful fun in class.

Hopefully things around here will be back to normal – whatever that is this week.

Design Wall Monday–September 16, 2013

Sorry I missed last week’s design wall but was busy with a friend and not on the net most of the week.

Here is what is on my design wall today, it is there simply because I dug it out this morning and hung it up again.  My friend Marti, showed me her completed quilt/wall hanging yesterday and shamed me into getting mine back out.  Not sure I will have time this week to work on it but at least it is out where I can see it.

I am going to put a lime green mini border or flange on and then a piano key border of black on white prints.

Since I spent the last week helping plan a memorial service and reception afterwards and spending time with my friend who lost her husband suddenly last Sunday, I didn’t actually get anything at all done during the week. I haven’t posted for a week except for my beginning machine piecing class last Wednesday.  I hope to get back at it now.

I received my batik hexies from the swap sometime last night.  They are beautiful.

Here are the ones I sent for the swap.

Since I kept one of each of the sets I made, I have the beginning (and middle) of a great quilt.

Saturday Sampler Top Finished

I finished piecing the Saturday Sampler top on Friday and we showed it yesterday morning. This is a smaller version of the large purple quilt.  We offered the blocks in three colors – Red, Black or Purple.  This is the black version.

Here is the purple for comparison.

The purple is a large queen and the black is a twin.  Both are great and both now need to be quilted!

Playing with Fat Quarters

0913 Fat Quarters

While working last weekend I decided that I wanted to spruce up the fat quarter display.  I cut and cut and and cut fat quarters and now if you want a color you have a choice.  I am not sure how long it will look like this but I love it.  I want to play with them some more!

Batik Hexies

I mailed my batik hexies for the swap on Wednesday.  I managed to make 66 sets.  I wanted to send 100 but I ran out of time (of course).

0913 Batik Hexies for Swap

It will be so much fun to see what gets returned.  I think an all batik hexie flower quilts will be lots of fun to work on.

Beginning Machine Piecing–Class 5

At the classes yesterday a lot of progress was made.  The evening class got caught up with the morning class, however two of the morning students were sick or had other appointments and were unable to attend.

Here is the homework from both groups.

0913 Week 5 Morning Homework

0913 Week 5 Evening Homework

The blocks are looking good.  Yesterday we worked on log cabin blocks and will move on the the last row in the quilts next week – flying geese.

Allatoona Quilters’ Guild Meeting

Today was the monthly meeting of the Allatoona Quilters’ Guild.  The program for the day was to show quilts made at our annual Red Top Retreats, past Block of the Months or Quarterly Quilts.  Here are a few of the quilts shown.

Last year at Red Top, the featured quilt was Swoon.

Mine is put together but still needs a couple of borders – on the list for hopefully the near future.

Stella and I went out to dinner after class on Thursday at Ted's Montana Grill. Here is what is on the floor. Great inspiration.
