New Saturday Sampler Block

This is the July block for one of our Saturday Samplers called Floral Fantasy.  I have decided that I need to make one before we give them out on the first Saturday so that I can tell Maetha if there is anything to watch out for when piecing.

This one had no issues, plenty of fabric and it went together with no problems.

Binding on the Nine Patch Surprise and a Giveaway Announcement

I finished the binding on the Nine Patch Surprise last night so it is all ready to go to Las Vegas to serve as a model for others making the same quilt.  I will be teaching this quilt one day of the retreat my sister and I are going to.  She will be teaching another day and I have the fabric picked out for her project. The quilt starts as nine patches and then the bright color strips are added.  I used large pieces of the four fabrics for the back and decided to use them to make a scrappy binding.  I really like how the binding turned out.  I had to change colors of thread with each change of binding color but it looks good.

About the giveaway – I am approaching two blogging milestones.  This post is number 992 and I plan on having a BIG giveaway at post 1000.  Be looking for it.  I haven’t decided exactly what to give away but I promise it will be worthwhile.

I am also at 92 followers and plan to have a follower giveaway when I reach 100.  Only followers will be eligible for this one.

More information will be coming on each of these giveaways.  I can’t wait.

Design Wall Monday – 6/28

My design wall doesn’t look a lot different from last week.  I still have the Jelly Roll Sampler blocks on the wall.  I made one extra one this week and am waiting for the last three patterns.

I actually have two different design walls.  They are mounted in a corner at right angles to each other.  Here is part of what is on the other design wall.

These are three of the Saturday Sampler blocks that are currently being worked on at Tiny Stitches.  The one on the right started in January and this is the January block.  I have the other blocks to work on and will be trying to catch up.  The other two blocks are the newest ones and these are the first blocks.  The second blocks will be out on Saturday.

For other design walls, check out Judy’s blog.

Susan Cleveland at Guild

I mentioned that Susan Cleveland was our guest speaker/teacher at guild last Friday so thought I would show some of her projects.  I didn’t get many good photos of her quilts.  The people who were assisting her didn’t hold the quilts still long enough to get photos.  After the program the quilts were on table so I was able to get some photos.

While Susan is known for her binding techniques with piping, she also loves prairie points and uses them on lots of her projects.  One of the other things she does is make quilts that are not squares of rectangles.  A lot of them have uneven edges.

She was a wonderful speaker and would highly recommend her to any guild.  We have been so lucky this year with wonderful speakers.

Two Customer Quilts

I delivered two more customer quilts yesterday.  They were both made by Kathleen and are lovely.

First is a blue/yellow quilt for a young lady.

I quilted it with light blue thread and used a freehand heart design.  I like how it turned out.

The next one was too large for me to get in one photo.  I love this shade of green.  I have been seeing a lot of it recently and think I need to make something from this wonderful color.

I did a freehand echoed flower on it with off white thread.  I really like the texture the quilting gives the quilt.

I am working on an antique “Grandma Quilt” now.  Should have it finished in the next couple of days.

Customer Quilt – Magical Slice and Dice

Here is a quilt I finished earlier this week.  It was made in one of my classes.

It has Minkee on the back!

I love the way the quilting looks on the Minkee.

Show and Tell at ECQG Today

As usual, we had some wonderful show and tell at guild today.  Our speaker was Susan Cleveland and she was also wonderful.

Unfortunately, the quilt holders rarely stood still enough for me to get photos so these, as bad as they are, are the only ones I got.

Doll Dress Quilt at Tiny Stitches

Karen made this cute quilt.  The doll dresses are from a couple of panels by Lakehouse Fabrics.  Karen embellished each dress, using rickrack, lace, etc.

See how she added aprons to most of the dresses.  This is really a cute project that should delight a little (or big) girl.

Beginning Piecing – Flying Geese

0610 Flying Geese

We made flying geese blocks today.  The first photo is from the morning class and the second on is the evening group.

This isn’t the easiest block to make but everyone did a great job!

Jelly Roll Sampler – Block 9

Here is block 9 of the Jelly Roll Sampler.  I am all caught up again.  The next block pattern won’t come for almost two weeks.

The fabric I purchased for the backing, binding and borders arrived today – very quick service.

From the front – binding, border, backing.  I had wanted a darker color for the border but since the sashing is going to be white, I think the lighter print will be fine.

PIF Gift from Jill

I received my PIF (Pay It Forward) from Jill at Ramblings of a Fabric and Yarn Obsessor.

It is a very cute drawstring bag with a zipper pocket on the front.  Now I just have to decide what to put in it!

Thank you Jill – I am very pleased with my gift.

Now it is my turn – I am looking for three people who want to play with me.  Update:  Closed – I have the three people I was looking for. I will make something for each of them and promise to send them a gift within the next 12 months.  In return, after they receive my gift, they agree to find 3 more people that they will make a gift for.  Anyone want to play?  Just let me know by commenting on this post and I will take the first three names.  Please make sure I can contact you if you come up as no-reply.

Design Wall Monday – June 21

Today on my design wall are the first eight blocks of the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along. I am all caught up.  Yesterday I found borders and backing at a online shop and ordered it – also binding.  The next pattern is due out today and I am determined to keep up.

Check out Judy’s blog for the rest of the design walls this Monday.

Caught Up on Jelly Roll Sampler Blocks

I may have started late but I am all caught up with the current Jelly Roll Sampler Blocks.  I finished off blocks 7 and 8 tonight.

Only four more to go and one more pattern is due tomorrow.

Two More Jelly Roll Sampler Blocks

I made two more Jelly Roll Sampler blocks this morning.  I have two more patterns and I think another one comes out tomorrow.  I should be able to make the other two in the next few days and be all caught up.

Here are blocks 5 and 6.

Off to work this afternoon.

Package Arrived

I ordered a few things from Jackie at Canton Village Quiltworks and they arrived early this week.

I got a couple of yards of Charcoal Kona and a fat quarter pack of rainbow Konas.  I also got City Quilts – I have heard such good things about it.

Busy day at Tiny Stitches coming up today – it is Saturday Sampler and lots of people are picking up finishing kits for the ones that finished in May.

My Sister Robin

My sister Robin goes to guilds and gives lectures and runs workshops.  She recently went to the Los Angeles Quilters Guild and one of the members put together a slide show.  It is really wonderful.

Check out Robin’s blog to see the photos.  It is worth your time.

Jelly Roll Sampler

I have been saving the patterns for the Jelly Roll Sampler Quilt Along but hadn’t started it until a couple of days ago.  I have had trouble staying asleep at night and have made four blocks – some in the middle of the night and some first thing in the morning.

I bought a Basic Grey jelly roll called Eva a couple of months ago and have planned to use it but hadn’t decided on the background fabric.  I finally decided to use a plain white fabric for the background and got started on it.  I have finished the first four blocks.

Here they are all together.

I really like how they are looking and am anxious to get the next four made but I have to work on customer quilts for a while.
